The end of September was momentous for country fans and chart nerds alike: Ella Langley’s hit “Choosin’ Texas” became the first song to spend 24 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, passing the 22-week mark held by Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” But observers seem eager to put an asterisk next to this single in the record books. The pop star Doja Cat claimed she was unaware of Langley. Fortune Magazine went further: “most U.S. music fans don’t know her name.” “My job requires me to listen to music…was it possible that a song that had been number one on Billboard for almost half a year [had] not graced my ears?” the Canadian journalist and broadcaster Alan Cross wondered. A CNN article echoed the sentiment, noting that “lots and lots of people say they’ve never heard it.” How can a record-breaker also be a track that people insist they’ve never encountered? 🔗 https://on.wsj.com/4sqewCR

Had a great time in NY last week speaking on the power of cultural intelligence in helping brands authentically connect with consumers. One of the major points we discussed was that cultural intelligence takes both data and intuition. Data can help us spot momentum, emerging behaviors and signals earlier. But understanding why something matters, where the energy is building and how a brand can add value still requires human judgment, taste, and being tapped into culture. That combination is increasingly important. Cultural relevance isn’t just about being present in the right spaces. It’s about knowing when to participate, how to show up authentically and how to create meaningful value for the people already there. Shout out to the Luminate team for the conversation and for bringing us together.

  • "Few parts of our industry have changed in the last decade as much as Latin music, and few tell a more interesting story in our data." At Billboard Latin Music Week, our CEO Rob Jonas took the stage for "By the Numbers: The State of Spanish Language Music Worldwide," highlighting the data and trends behind Latin music's growth and global influence. A few key takeaways: 🎵 Latin is the fifth-largest genre in the U.S., accounting for roughly one in every 12 on-demand audio streams. 📈 Latin has been the fastest-growing genre in the U.S. over the past five years, with more Latin artists reaching the Top 500 than ever before. 🎧 Nearly one in three U.S. Latin music fans is a superfan, creating new opportunities for artists and the broader industry. As Rob ended with, "The next era certainly belongs to those who invest in the fans." Thank you to Billboard and Leila Cobo for having us! Read the full recap: https://lnkd.in/gKshZq7r

A planned ending is a rare privilege for a series, with only a third of non-renewed U.S. scripted shows in 2025 wrapping on their own terms. However, Netflix gave planned endings to 40% of its non-renewed scripted shows between 2022 and 2025, beating the 27% overall rate across competing streamers. Access Luminate’s “TV Renewals & Cancellations” to learn more about the strategy behind planned series endings: https://lnkd.in/gctsVuYj
