  • Watch the Grand Opening of the Long Beach Youth Shelter & Navigation Center Join Mayor Rex Richardson and other City of Long Beach leaders as they celebrate the grand opening of the Youth Shelter and Navigation Center, the City’s first permanent shelter facility for youth ages 18-24 experiencing homelessness. The facility includes 12 beds, restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, a kitchenette, a pet relief area and a lounge area. Renovations on the 5,400-square-foot center began in January 2024 in response to the City’s homelessness emergency, turning a vacant building into a safe, welcoming space with a fully remodeled interior, upgraded amenities and improved exterior features. The center will be a vital resource for people experiencing homelessness and will also offer comprehensive social service support and onsite case management.

  • UPDATE⚠️ Tsunami Advisory Lifted as of 6 a.m. Wednesday (7/30) 📢 PUBLIC NOTICE ⚠️ No evacuation orders are in place, but beaches are closed and the public is urged to stay out of the water and away from coastal areas until further notice. Long Beach is expected to receive approximately one foot of tidal rise at around 1 a.m. on July 30. While this may not seem like a lot, one foot of water can have potential impact to low-lying areas of Long Beach, including along the Peninsula and in the marinas to the public and private docks. Although there is some predictability with tsunamis, higher tidal rise could occur and there could be a series of waves that occurs over hours or days. The community is encouraged to be prepared. The City has updated longbeach.gov/emergency with tsunami advisory information and resources. Read more 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gc4P6Jsu
