  • Field days are our favorite days! KSN’s Augustus (Gus) Rowan, Elizabeth Ramos, PE, CFM and Elise Jarrett recently hit the field to tour the Tudor Flood Risk Reduction Project—and got a close-up look at the construction of a slurry wall just south of the Nicolaus Bridge along the Feather River. The wall is a key part of a much larger effort to strengthen 45 miles of levee along the Feather River West, providing critical protection for farmland and communities throughout the valley. There’s nothing like seeing engineering in action! #FloodProtection #EngineeringInAction

  • Welcome to the team, Shea Duffy! Shea joins KSN as a graduate from California Polytechnic State University, Humboldt, with a BS in Environmental Resources Engineering. Shea gained extensive experience in Cal Poly Humboldt’s Engineering Department, where he focused on stormwater infrastructure design, flood mitigation planning, and hydraulic modeling. He has also had the opportunity to contribute to multiple restoration-focused projects, including the Salmon Creek Watershed Monitoring Project, the Sierra and Plumas National Forest Meadow Restoration Project, and a research initiative exploring the use of biochar for soil remediation. While in college, Shea’s team won first place in the 2025 ASCE Mid-Pacific Student Water Treatment Competition for excellence in effective filtration system design, technical reports, and presentation. Some of the skills and expertise Shea brings to KSN includes experience with civil and environmental design tools, stormwater modeling and hydraulic calculations, field instrumentation, and report and data development. Outside of work, Shea enjoys the great outdoors biking, snowboarding, backpacking, and golfing as well as creating new recipes in the kitchen and playing chess. He once high-fived the actor Rob Schneider! Please join us in welcoming Shea! #civilengineer #habitatrestoration #environmentalengineering #ksninc

  • Welcome to the team, Blake H.! Blake joins KSN full-time as a graduate of the University of the Pacific with a BS/MS in Engineering Management. A familiar face within our firm, Blake started with KSN three years ago as an intern through the University of the Pacific’s Co-Op program, where he worked with the Construction Management team on key projects such as the Smith Canal Gate and the Reclamation District 17 Levee Seepage Cutoff Wall. He now returns to our CM team with prior experience as an Assistant Construction Manager and Resident Engineer. In addition to his work in the field, Blake has also found a role in supporting the team with contractor and client communications, as well as design work. Outside of the office, Blake enjoys reading, writing fiction, spending time with family and friends, and traveling throughout the U.S., where he’s visited 40 states to date. • KSN recently partnered with UC Berkeley for the “Cal Job Shadow” program, a campaign that connects students with Cal alumni to provide invaluable exposure to career paths, connections, and real-world workplaces. Last month, we had the pleasure of hosting Peter Briones Reyes, a sophomore studying Chemical Engineering at UC Berkeley. With a strong interest in water and wastewater treatment, Peter spent part of the day in the office with Jade Fredeen, E.I.T. and the other half in the field with Patrick Maloney, P.E. and Neal Colwell. In the office, Peter was introduced to a range of topics, including: • Analyzing monitoring data received by treatment plants • Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) processes at wastewater facilities • CAD design workflows • Regulatory drivers behind infrastructure improvements A big thank you to Peter for spending the day with us! We wish you the very best in your studies and future successes. #UCBerkeley #CalJobShadow #STEMeducation #STEMcareers

  • This year’s annual in-person Q2 gathering at Top Golf was more than just a meeting – it was a celebration of commitment, growth, and the strong connections that drive our team. From the mid-year recaps to the midday bites and the friendly golf swings in between, the event was a refreshing outing to reconnect with team members from across our offices and to kick off the second half of 2025 with some well-deserved fun and team camaraderie. Thank you to the entire KSN team for your ongoing dedication and support! We're excited for the new opportunities that lie ahead and look forward to our continued success together. #civilengineers #teamcamaraderie #ksninc

  • We’re excited to welcome Elise Jarrett to the KSN team! With a background in environmental sustainability and natural resources management, Elise brings a deep-rooted passion for water systems, land use, and ecological preservation to our team. Elise previously worked for the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources, where she discovered a passion for water management as she engaged with irrigation districts and municipalities. She later joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in California, focusing on flood risk management and gaining experience across water resource challenges. One of Elise’s most rewarding projects involved a tribal ecosystem restoration study in Northern California. Working hand-in-hand with the tribe, she helped develop a plan to support cultural vegetative resources for medicinal and ceremonial use a powerful example of community-centered environmental work. Outside of work, Elise enjoys staying active through paddleboarding, exploring new restaurants and taking on fun new hobbies like tapdancing. Welcome, Elise — we’re so glad you’re here!

Engineering with a bang! 💥 A few team members from KSN recently took a field trip to George Reed, Inc.'s Jackson Valley Quarry. From touring the facility to blasting some rocks, the visit gave our engineers an up-close look at the mining operations that support our work. The team learned about the full process—from material loading and sorting to the production of riprap, crushed rock, and other construction aggregates. These materials are an important part of many of our embankment and levee repair projects, so it was a great opportunity to see how they’re created in person. Many thanks to the team at George Reed, Inc. for hosting such an informative and unforgettable visit!

  • Strong communities don’t just happen — they’re built, maintained, and uplifted by the everyday efforts of public works professionals. For 69 years, KSN has had the privilege of working alongside cities, counties, and special districts to design and deliver infrastructure that improves the quality of life across our communities. Over that time, we've seen firsthand the important role public works professionals play in keeping our towns and cities running smoothly. This year’s APWA Sacramento Chapter National Public Works Week theme, “People, Purpose, Presence,” reflects the very core of the AEC profession: honoring the people who serve, the purpose that drives them, and the continued presence of their work in our everyday lives. Our team at KSN would like to extend our thanks to all public works professionals for your hard work and dedication in making a real difference and lasting impact on the places we call home. We are grateful for the opportunity to support you, and we look forward to continuing to build strong partnerships in the years ahead. #NPWW #PublicWorksWeek #Infrastructure
