Today we raised our minimum salary* for engineers from £240k → £360k+ here’s why… Our Founding belief: When we were founding Jack & Jill Matt and I had a long conversation about what kind of company we wanted to build, we wrote this line down: “We believe tiny teams of talent dense individuals can outperform much larger ones- we’re going to pay well above market comp, to build a tiny team, having outsized impact doing the best work of their lives” The market has changed in London: 9 months ago when we announced we would pay £240k minimum salaries, a lot of people were shocked, but since then: The frontier labs have rapidly expanded into London We’ve seen employers on J&J increase founding engineer comp well above £240k Our topline metrics have increased 12x Seeing J&J grow over the last year has made us only more bullish that tiny teams of highly talented individuals are going to have an outsized impact on the UK economy over the next few years. Building a consumer product is amazing in ways I didn't anticipate. I was sat working in a cafe earlier, and the person next to me asked what I was working on. Once I told him I was working on Jack & Jill, his face lit up, and he told me that he'd been working with Jack, how helpful he'd found it, and how excited he was about the company. Twenty minutes later, I got a cold call, and after telling the seller I wasn't interested, he told me how he had been using Jack to explore a new role (hopefully the call transcript doesn't make it to his manager 😬) and thanked me. Insanely validating.
