Stop by the Opto 22 booth to catch this demo at #ICCUnleashed later this month!
We're (Joltek) getting ready for Inductive Automation #ICCUnleashed in just a few weeks. We're working on a few demo architectures; one of which showcases the capabilities of the Opto 22 groov RIO tied to real manufacturing challenges. 1. We've established a way to securely bridge IT / OT via OpenVPN to create a remote connection gateway from the outside into a secured OT network following ISA-62443 best practices. By using the port redirect feature of the RIO, we allow access to specific credentialed users through the tunnel for standard applications - Ex: Rockwell Automation Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, etc. and of course allowing external Ignition instances to tunnel to the hardware for data purposes. 2. We're running Ignition Edge on the RIO which creates additional opportunities. We have a local HMI application tied to the PLC allowing us to (a) have a local screen, (b) have a web based screen for controlling the machine. Furthermore, we have access to many other Ignition modules and for the purposes of the demo, we're solving a few data challenges! 1. We're buffering some of the data locally (experienced engineers know that assets can often lose connection to where the data needs to go), 2. We're displaying key metrics on local screens, 3. We're funneling the data to a centralized MQTT broker which will further "connect, collect, store, visualize" what is needed. 3. You might be wondering why we can't do the above using an IPC. Beisides the pricepoint, we also gain access to local I/O, which in my experience is often needed when running various CI initiaitves, collecting KPIs (ex: OEE), etc. It's not always possible to modify the exisitng control system and add I/O for process or discrete equipment; which is absolutely possible with the configurable I/O we have on the RIO! We'll be using Node-RED for some of the flows! Looking forward to seeing everyone soon and releasing additional content. Reach out if you'd like to chat about different solutions!

Every year during the Ignition Community Conference, Opto 22 provides an incredible device setup for the final on-stage Build-a-thon competition. Every year we also like to tease some photos of that setup to get people to guess what it is. Drop your best guesses in the comments and join us in September at #ICCUnleashed to see the big reveal!

When an Ignition Perspective view takes a moment to load, a blank area can make the page feel unfinished or broken, even if everything is working normally. A loading skeleton solves that by showing a placeholder version of the content before the real data loads. Instead of staring at an empty space, the user sees the shape of the card, chart, or widget that is about to appear. DMC Engineering shows a straightforward way to build a shimmer loading skeleton in Ignition Perspective using a lightweight skeleton view, a loading Boolean, and a custom style class in the project stylesheet. No JavaScript or custom module is needed. Read more: https://bit.ly/45onxls
