  • Workers at WESF are on a roll! 🎉 Crews at the Waste Encapsulation and Storage Facility recently transferred the sixth massive concrete cask filled with radioactive capsules from the facility's pool cell to a nearby dry storage pad — another big step in this high-priority project. 💪🏗️ This transfer marks a major achievement: one‑third of the total inventory of 1,936 cesium and strontium capsules have now been moved from underwater storage to a safer dry storage configuration, further reducing environmental risk. And with the seventh of 18 planned casks already staged for capsule loading, momentum keeps building. You rock, WESF team!🔥

  • CPCCo just wrapped up its annual school supply drive, and our team delivered in a big way! 🎒💙 Thanks to our Engineering and Nuclear Safety group, backpacks filled with essential supplies — including scientific calculators — were distributed to more than 150 local students through our partnership with Communities In Schools of Benton-Franklin. We also teamed up with SHAKE (Seniors Helping All Kids Education) to distribute additional supplies to 92 local elementary schools, two preschools and a local veteran group. In total, CPCCo employees donated more than 6,360 items valued at nearly $10,000. Now that’s what we call having the “write” stuff! ✨📚

  • Safety leadership isn’t just a value at CPCCo — it’s action. This month, President Bob Wilkinson presented a Lifesaving Award to Greg Deroos, who stepped up to help a colleague during a medical emergency at work. Greg acted quickly and confidently to stabilize his coworker until EMTs arrived 🙌. His calm focus and response under pressure prevented further harm and showcased the powerful impact of preparedness and teamwork 💙.

  • It’s Fair Week, y’all 🎡 — which just might be Ron Hoyt’s favorite week of the year! As a business analyst with CPCCo’s Chief Information Office, Ron is quick to help his coworkers with software management issues. 🖥️🛠️ But what really gets Ron going is talking about his lifelong passion: Rodeo! 🐂🤠 In fact, he is known by many around the CPCCo frontier as “Cowboy Ron” — a friendly face who, over a drink at the local saloon, will tell you all about his life on the range.🥤 OK, at CPCCo make that a soda at the water cooler. 😂💧 Ron grew up on a cattle/wheat farm in northwestern Montana near Glacier National Park. 🌾🐄⛰️ He began swinging a rope about the time most kids picked up their first baseball glove. ⚾ He got his start in high school rodeo, where he quickly discovered rodeo could help pay for college. 🎓 As a senior, Ron was the runner‑up All‑Around Cowboy for his district finals! 🏅 Ron later roped his way into the professional ranks, competing at rodeos across the western U.S. and Canada and even qualifying for the Wrangler Team Roping Championship, placing sixth out of more than 1,200 competitors. 🔥 These days, Ron still competes at smaller Northwest rodeos but spends much of his time with his wife at their four‑acre farm in Sunnyside. 🌻🐕 They have five children, a granddaughter, and — of course — horses and cows. 🐎🐮 This weekend, Ron will be at the Horse Heaven Round‑Up at the Benton Franklin Fair 🎟️, simply enjoying the event as a spectator. If you see Cowboy Ron around, tip your cap and give him a howdy! 🤠👋

  • TRU story! CPCCo recently resumed certifying transuranic waste for shipment to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico — a major step forward in reducing long‑term environmental risk at Hanford. ♻️☢️ TRU waste consists of tools, rags, protective clothing, sludges, soil and other materials contaminated with small amounts of man-made radioactive elements, mostly plutonium. The certification process is critical to safely and compliantly packaging this waste for permanent disposal off the Hanford Site. Shipments of TRU waste to WIPP – which were paused in 2011 – are set to restart by Sept. 30, 2028. 🌎💪

  • 🎉 Happy 110th Birthday, National Park Service! 🎉 On this day in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Organic Act, creating an agency dedicated to preserving America’s natural and cultural resources “for the enjoyment, education and inspiration of this and future generations.” From the beginning, the mission has been about protecting what matters so people can learn, reflect and be inspired for generations to come. At CPCCo, we’re proud to help carry that spirit forward at one of the country’s most historically significant sites – Hanford’s B Reactor, part of the Manhattan Project National Historical Park. The world’s first full-scale plutonium production reactor, B Reactor stands as a powerful beacon of history. CPCCo manages B Reactor as part of our Hanford mission, helping protect and preserve the facility and its stories for years to come. So today, we celebrate the National Park Service and its 110 years of safeguarding America’s treasures. 🎂🎈
