What if one of the biggest opportunities in nonprofit fundraising isn’t cash donations at all? CARS CEO Howard Pearl recently spoke with citybiz about the untapped potential of non-cash giving and how organizations can unlock new sources of funding. From vehicle donations to real estate, these gifts can make a meaningful difference for nonprofits, yet many organizations face barriers to accepting them. With the addition of Sean Coveleski as Chief Strategy Officer, CARS is building on its efforts to break down those barriers, make non-cash giving more accessible, and help nonprofits generate additional funding to support their missions. Check out the full Q&A below! 👇
Q&A with Howard Pearl, CEO of CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services) Most American wealth is held in assets other than cash, yet nonprofit fundraising still relies heavily on traditional monetary donations. Howard Pearl argues that this disconnect represents a significant missed opportunity for organizations seeking to expand their funding. Through Charitable Adult Rides & Services (CARS), which works with more than 10,000 nonprofits nationwide, he is helping organizations turn vehicles, real estate, and other non-cash assets into meaningful financial support. Pearl also discusses how CARS has returned more than $650 million to nonprofits through vehicle donations since 2003 and more than $12 million through its real estate donation program since 2021. With the appointment of Sean Coveleski as Chief Strategy Officer, the organization is expanding its efforts to help nonprofits overcome the legal, operational, and administrative barriers that often prevent them from accepting more complex gifts. Read the full Q&A to learn Pearl's perspective on unlocking non-cash giving opportunities, making real estate donations more accessible, strengthening nonprofit fundraising strategies, and why helping donors give differently could create significant new funding opportunities. https://lnkd.in/gyxm3Xd2 Your go-to for local business news. 🚗 Meals on Wheels America is a featured nonprofit this Cartober! Meals on Wheels America is using Cartober to introduce more people to vehicle donation as another way to support older adults and the local programs that serve them. As Emily Chauncey of Meals on Wheels America shared: “We’re very much looking forward to this added exposure and are grateful to be featured. We’re hoping that it’ll be a great way to expand our vehicle donation program to new audiences and first-time vehicle donors.” And those donations can make a difference well beyond October. Emily added that vehicle donation revenue helps support the organization’s member network of local Meals on Wheels providers and the work they do each day to support seniors through nutrition and social connection.
