The cheapest place to resolve a construction conflict is always in the drawings. Once construction starts, the same issue can become an RFI or change order, costly rework, a compromise in quality, or lost time in the schedule. We built the Construction Document Review to improve our own project documentation and our client’s construction outcomes. We’re now opening an infill-focused version of that system to developers with active projects in Austin, TX

A new era of architectural design services
About us
Cedar delivers tech-driven architectural services for infill housing developers. Our AI platform ingests zoning codes, housing plans, and parcel data to surface by-right and incentive-driven scenarios, while our in-house architects turn those insights into permit-ready designs. We help developers move from vague site potential to entitled, buildable projects faster, with clearer economics and less risk.

Nate spent 5 years at Autodesk. Then he co-founded Cedar and moved to San Diego to build the engineering team. Cedar is an architecture and software firm attacking housing at the regulatory layer. Their AI platform, cedarOS, reviews zoning codes, housing plans, and parcel data. In-house architects turn those insights into permit-ready designs. The problem they're solving: building codes are usually added, not subtracted, and this makes them harder to navigate, especially when regulations come from both city and state levels. Cedar's focus is urban infill and "missing middle" housing: the neighborhoods already inside cities, not development at the edges. They go deep on local zoning ordinances to understand what can actually be built, and save budget that would have been used processing paperwork. Founded 2022 by CEO Kyle Vansice (AIA-licensed architect) and CTO Nate Peters. Austin HQ, with the engineering team in a Carlsbad office. 3 open SD roles: - Chief of Staff to the CTO - Senior Software Engineer - Software Engineer, Geometry & CAD Tooling - All 3 open SD roles: https://lnkd.in/g-9Z2PG2 We're hunting for growing San Diego companies with open roles and sharing them in our newsletter every Tuesday. Let's help good people find great San Diego teams.

Meet Homairah Munsami, Senior Project Designer at Cedar. Originally from South Africa, Homairah brings an international perspective shaped by nearly 12 years of experience across residential, hospitality, adaptive reuse, retail, and public realm projects. She is passionate about creating thoughtful, equitable housing that contributes to more inclusive and livable cities for everyone. Homairah has spent her career learning how to create spaces where people feel at home. For Cedar, that means an obsessive eye for the human scale: proportion, color, materials, the things people actually touch. She’s here to prove that the future of housing is beautiful. Welcome to the team, Homairah.

We’re excited to announce our work with Gossett & Co. on multiple upcoming projects in Austin. Jared Gossett and his team build some of the most beautiful homes in Texas - earning a reputation for combining exceptional craftsmanship with building science and a long-term perspective to create homes that are designed to inspire, perform, and endure for generations. We’ll share more as these projects come to life, but together we’re setting a new standard for homebuilding.

We're growing our engineering team in San Diego. Join us in combining architecture and software to transform how homes get built in America's cities. Senior Software Engineer You'll design the architecture behind the architecture, building the core platform powering Cedar's automation and delivery workflows, owning systems end-to-end, and turning zoning and design constraints into scalable software alongside architects and product. Software Engineer - Geometry & CAD Systems You'll own the geometric core of our platform: the systems that represent, generate, and edit buildings in software, from computational geometry and parametric generation to the browser-based CAD tools our architects use every day. Competitive salary + equity. See full job description and apply: https://lnkd.in/epxV8Y8v #softwareengineer #proptech #hiring

Meet Patrick Ray, Knowledge Graph Engineer at Cedar. Patrick found us the way he finds most things: by obsessively thinking through hard problems. In this case, the question was: How do you model the complex world of housing rules and regulations? He's spent his career figuring out how to represent knowledge—from how the brain encodes information, to submarines building collective maps of the ocean, to modeling diseases in biomedical informatics—eventually earning a PhD. Now he's applying that expertise to understanding the web of zoning, permitting, and building codes that slow down new housing. For Cedar, that means building the data layer that powers Cedar's AI tools, enabling them to provide fast, accurate answers. Welcome to the team, Patrick.
