Today marks a new era for fire service in the North Valley! Bernalillo County celebrated the grand opening of Bernalillo County Fire & Rescue Station 36 — a nearly 14,000-square-foot, all-electric facility built to serve the community and support our firefighters for generations to come. It features four apparatus bays, 12 bunk rooms, a full kitchen, gym and day room, a community space shaped by resident input, and a 52 kW solar array. And there’s more to come: Station 36 will soon be home to New Mexico’s first electric fire truck! 🚒⚡ Located on Edith Boulevard NE near Osuna Road, the new station replaces the aging facility on Bear Canyon Road and represents a major investment in public safety, sustainability, and the North Valley community. This project came to life through strong collaboration and partnerships. A special thank you to Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, as well as our state lawmakers Sen. Katy Duhigg, Rep. Dayan Hochman Vigil, and Former Rep. Deborah Armstrong for critical capital support that helped make Station 36 possible. We’re also grateful to SMPC Architects, HB Construction, many BernCo staff members, and our community partners for their hard work and dedication in bringing this state‑of‑the‑art facility to life. The Committee will connect and integrate stakeholders, local and emerging leaders, and diverse perspectives into the planning process. A new art exhibit featuring photography that offers insights into the lives of local youth facing housing insecurity has opened at Bernalillo County headquarters at Alvarado Square. Titled "My World, My Lens – Every Picture Tells a Story," the youth photography exhibit allows the public to view the creative perspectives of young artists whose families are part of the Bernalillo County Family Wellness Hotel Program. This program provides transitional housing for families experiencing instability, enabling them to work with care managers on individual needs and to move toward more stable housing and employment when ready. Families receive practical support such as meals, laundry, transportation for program activities, regular care-management meetings, and on-site county staff throughout the week. Bernalillo County is celebrating a new art exhibit showcasing photography that provides a look into the lives of local youth experiencing housing insecurity. The My World, My Lens – Every Picture Tells a Story youth photography exhibit opened Friday morning at Bernalillo County’s headquarters at Alvarado Square. The exhibit offers the public an opportunity to experience the creative visions of young artists whose families have spent time in the Bernalillo County Family Wellness Hotel Program. The Family Wellness Hotel Program is a transitional housing program for families experiencing housing instability. Families can stay in the program while they work with care managers to address their individual needs and navigate the path toward more stable housing and, when appropriate, employment. Families have access to practical supports such as meals, laundry facilities, transportation for program-related activities, regular care-management meetings, and county staff onsite throughout the week. The program is designed to provide families with a safe and supportive environment during what can be an extremely uncertain period in their lives. This expressive exhibit is the result of a five-week program developed through a partnership between the Bernalillo County Arts Board, Arts Board volunteers, and the Family Wellness Hotel Program employee team, connecting arts, housing support, youth development, and wellness. These young artists learned about composition, storytelling, and observation. They used disposable cameras, had their photographs developed and printed by Picture Perfect Photo Lab, and participated in critiques. “Providing a safe place to stay is only part of supporting a family experiencing housing insecurity,” says Bernalillo County Manager Cindy Chavez. “My World, My Lens is a reminder that building strong communities means investing not only in housing, but also in the creativity, resilience, and voices of our youth.” https://lnkd.in/ebk56-4s
