The next decade of hiring is being rewritten by two forces: AI and an aging population. BLS projections for 2025 through 2035: 5.9 million new jobs, but growth slows to 3.5% from 10.9% last decade. Healthcare leads every sector, generating about 37% of all new jobs as an aging population drives demand. Nurse practitioners top the list at +41%. AI splits the rest. Tech and data roles climb (data scientists +35%). Office and admin support falls fastest, losing 752K jobs as automation takes routine work. Where those jobs sit matters just as much. When the government corrected its recent job counts against actual payroll records this week, the national change was almost nothing. Across the country's largest metros, though, the revisions ranged widely, from 1.9% below the reported count on the low end to 4.3% above on the high end. The national number can look flat while your market moves in either direction. The next decade depends on which roles you need, and which markets you are hiring in.
