The Bridge of the Gods is more than just a crossing, it’s a vital connection between Oregon and Washington, supporting over 1.5 million trips each year. Apex recently had the opportunity to support the Port of Cascade Locks and Parsons Corporation with planning efforts for future improvements to this historic structure with a mix of traditional surveying, UAS-based lidar, and photogrammetry. Combining ground and aerial data, a detailed 3D model was created to help visualize the bridge's existing structure and surrounding topography-providing a safe and effective way of documenting current conditions supporting Parsons efforts to document the existing structure as-built. This data, footage, and model, will provide engineers and planners the tools needed to identify what is needed for long-term preservation and seismic resilience. National Traffic Awareness Month is dedicated to promoting road safety and highlighting efforts that help protect pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike. Apex is proud to support initiatives that improve transportation safety and raise awareness about the importance of thoughtful infrastructure design, especially in school zones and high-traffic areas where safety is critical. Jeff Whitman and his team at Apex recently supported the City of Ridgefield, Washington, with an urgent school safety project. The design included three key components, a pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB), also known as a HAWK signal, a rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB), and a flashing school zone speed limit sign assembly. The City had received a grant to install the school safety improvements, and with a compressed timeline, the Apex team delivered a complete design within just a few months.
