We're encouraged that the Department for Education Office of Civil Rights has opened an investigation into the serious allegations outlined in ADL's Title VI complaint, filed by pro-bono counsel Covington & Burling LLP, against Baltimore City Public Schools. This is a meaningful step toward ensuring Jewish students can learn in an environment free from antisemitic harassment and bias. Data released today by the FBI reveals that reported single-bias anti-Jewish hate crime incidents increased 5% from 2023, consistent with ADL data, and that these crimes represented nearly 70% of all religion-based hate crimes in 2024. https://lnkd.in/efumfdck

Huda Beauty is one of the largest makeup brands in the world. Its creator, Huda Kattan has promoted conspiracy theories and antisemitic tropes to her millions of followers. Recently, she took to her social media to blame Israel for WWI, WWII, 9/11 and more. Blaming Jews for wars and other global tragedies is an age-old antisemitic trope, which unfortunately is seen across the globe. In her latest rant, Huda Kattan went so far as to accuse Israel of hiding pedophiles. Having such a big platform for your business and choosing to use it to spread antisemitic conspiracy theories is inflammatory, irresponsible and dangerous. ADL and JLens welcome TikTok's decision to remove Huda Kattan’s hateful video and call on Kattan to issue a public apology and engage in meaningful education about antisemitism and the damage such conspiracy theories cause. Huda Beauty products are still carried at multiple major retailers, including Sephora, Cult Beauty, Harrods, and Walmart. Responsible corporate values and a genuine commitment to combating hate are not compatible with the antisemitic tropes shared by the founder and public figure of this popular brand. https://lnkd.in/eCBXCw4u

ADL, represented pro bono by Covington & Burling LLP, has filed a Title VI complaint with the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights alleging that Baltimore City Public Schools knowingly allowed its schools to become hostile environments for Jewish students, while neglecting to address numerous incidents of antisemitic harassment, bullying and discrimination.
