From the digital camera to the microprocessor, electrical engineering has played a defining role in RPI’s legacy. Now, alumnus Doug Mercer ’77 is helping shape what comes next. In June, Mercer generously gifted $27 million to support the department where he earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. In recognition of his support, it is now named the Douglas A. Mercer ’77 Department of Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering. His gift will support hands-on learning throughout the ECSE curriculum, invest in faculty positions and further integrate the Mercer XLab — a space that he also had a significant investment in — into ESCE.
