Popular seafood staple contains up to 64% less of key heart-healthy nutrient than older data showed

Celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern is pushing back against concerns about farmed salmon after new research found the popular fish may contain substantially less heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids than previously believed.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)-led study, recently published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition, found that farmed Atlantic salmon contained 63.8% less eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and 47.5% less docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) — two important omega-3 fatty acids — compared with older federal nutritional data.

Researchers suggested the differences could be linked to changes in fish feed, as salmon farms increasingly substitute plant-based oils for marine fish oils.

But Zimmern, a James Beard Award-winning chef and co-author of "The Blue Food Cookbook," cautioned against drawing sweeping conclusions about farmed seafood from the findings.

"What we should be calling for is not to eliminate farmed seafood. How do we make it better?" Zimmern told Fox News Digital.

The research examined eight farmed Atlantic salmon fillets purchased from retailers in the mid-Atlantic region, raising questions about how representative the findings are of the broader industry.

Zimmern questioned whether the results adequately reflected differences among salmon producers worldwide.

The celebrity chef, who said he has personally visited salmon farms in Chile, said farming practices can vary considerably.

"There are some really good ones and [there are some] that are not so good," he said.

Zimmern, who has long advocated for Americans to eat more responsibly sourced seafood, argued that improving aquaculture is preferable to discouraging consumers from eating farmed fish altogether.

"The question is what's going to replace it? We have a very reactionary society. Right? You can't take away millions, tens of millions, hundreds of millions, pounds of food globally and not replace it with something else," he said.

Asked about the limited sample size, a USDA spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the salmon was selected to update existing nutritional information.

"The number of samples was based on standard methods used to evaluate whether nutrient levels have changed meaningfully since earlier analyses," the spokesperson said.

The USDA also emphasized that the findings should not discourage consumers from eating farmed salmon.

"The study found that farmed Atlantic salmon remains a nutritious source of omega-3 fatty acids and other key nutrients," the spokesperson said.

Zimmern previously told Fox News Digital that Americans should pay closer attention to where their seafood comes from and how it is produced, rather than simply choosing between wild-caught and farm-raised varieties.

He reiterated that position in his latest interview, arguing that seafood often faces scrutiny that consumers don't apply equally to other animal proteins.

‘Cult mom’ Lori Vallow wanted him dead – 7 years later he gets last word on surviving doomsday killer’s plot

A bullet missed Brandon Boudreaux’s head by inches when a gunman opened fire on him outside his Arizona home in 2019.

The failed assassination exposed a murder-for-hire plot involving Lori Vallow Daybell. Prosecutors said she recruited her brother, Alex Cox, to kill Boudreaux, who was in the midst of a contentious divorce from Vallow’s niece, Melani Pawlowski.

Now, Boudreaux is telling his side of the story.

On Oct. 2, 2019, Cox allegedly fired from a parked Jeep Wrangler as Boudreaux pulled his Tesla into the driveway at his Gilbert home. Boudreaux saw the vehicle’s rear window open moments before the shooter fired. A bullet struck Boudreaux’s driver’s-side door, shattering the window.

Although police identified Cox as the suspected shooter shortly after the attack, he died in December 2019 without facing charges.

An Arizona jury convicted Vallow, known as the "cult mom," in June 2025 of conspiring to kill Boudreaux. Two months earlier, another jury convicted her of conspiring to murder her estranged husband, Charles Vallow, whom Cox shot and killed in July 2019.

The Arizona convictions followed Vallow’s 2023 Idaho trial. Jurors found her guilty of murdering her two children, Tylee Ryan, 16, and Joshua "JJ" Vallow, 7, and conspiring to murder Tammy Daybell, the former wife of her husband, Chad Daybell.

Jurors also convicted her of grand theft for collecting her children’s Social Security benefits.

Sharing his story

Boudreaux is telling his story in his new book, "Unthinkable." He initially wrote the book privately for his four children. He wanted them to have a broader account of the ordeal and understand his decisions.

"I'm sure I made some mistakes," Boudreaux told Fox News Digital. "If they need some closure, if they need to understand better... my goal was to give them all the information."

He also hoped to demonstrate how his faith anchored him, while giving his children the freedom to choose their own spiritual path.

"I want them to understand their dad and maybe in understanding their dad and why he made the choices he did, maybe they'll understand themselves better," he said.

The project expanded after Boudreaux showed the manuscript to loved ones, who urged him to share it with the public.

"They all encouraged me," he said. "They said they thought it was good enough and there was enough in there that people would be interested in."

Still, Boudreaux waited until the criminal proceedings advanced before speaking publicly, purposely avoiding the release of information that could interfere with the investigations.

"I needed to go on the stand with a defense attorney," he said. "I just felt more comfortable waiting and making sure that I let that process go first."

"Now that it feels like it's most likely done, it was something that I always kind of intended to share my perspective on."

Divorce and shooting

During Vallow’s Idaho murder trial, Boudreaux testified that his marriage to Pawlowski collapsed in 2019 as she grew closer to Vallow.

The couple filed for divorce in July 2019. They later fought over custody of their children.

According to a 2020 custody filing in Maricopa County Superior Court, Pawlowski’s second husband, Ian, wrote that she believed a "dark entity" or demon had possessed Boudreaux, East Idaho News reported.

The filing also claimed Chad Daybell told Pawlowski something must happen to Boudreaux to advance his spirit and the Lord’s plan.

Pawlowski has not been charged in the shooting.

Boudreaux, who remarried in 2020, said the shooting, his divorce and the lingering fear that someone was still after him left him struggling to trust others.

"Having been through someone shooting at me, and then having them continue, in my opinion, to keep looking for me ... you're just naturally gonna have some trust issues," he said.

He acknowledged that public attention brought some discomfort, but said most people treat him with kindness and respect.

Investigation remains active

Boudreaux declined to discuss details of the shooting investigation, saying he wanted to leave that work to law enforcement.

Enes Kanter Freedom praises WNBA Finals players, rips leadership after Valkyries' historic championship win

Enes Kanter Freedom praised the WNBA’s players but took a shot at league leadership after Saturday’s historic Game 7, renewing his warning that his push to enter the 2027 draft is far from over.

His reaction came after the Golden State Valkyries defeated the Atlanta Dream 68-63 at Chase Center in San Francisco, winning their first championship in just their second season. Gabby Williams led Golden State with 30 points in the first Game 7 in WNBA Finals history.

"I’m so proud of all these hardworking, talented women who have dedicated their lives to basketball. They deserve all the recognition, respect, and support in the world," Freedom said in a statement reacting to the game.

"I just wish they had better leadership, because the conversation should be about their incredible performances on the court, not controversies off it. My hope is that next year we can finally have some peace and let basketball be the focus again.

"But if not, I’ll see you ladies at the 2027 WNBA Draft. Rules are rules!"

The former NBA center announced his draft bid in August, saying he identifies as a woman and arguing that the league’s eligibility language allowed him to compete. The WNBA has already deemed him ineligible.

Commissioner Cathy Engelbert reiterated that position in an Oct. 16 response to Republican lawmakers who had pressed the league to explain its eligibility standards. She wrote that "only women are eligible to play in the WNBA" and identified Freedom as a man.

The exchange followed a September inquiry led by Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., seeking, among other answers, the league’s definition of "women."

Article XIII, Section 1(a) of the WNBA’s 2026 collective bargaining agreement states: "Only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA." The agreement does not set out a separate eligibility policy for transgender women.

Freedom has said he would end his campaign if the league explicitly restricted eligibility to biological women.

The dispute also has a connection to the player who led Golden State to its championship.

Williams voiced support for transgender athletes earlier this year, saying in May, "I would welcome a trans athlete on my team or against my team, anytime." Freedom later cited her comments as the inspiration for his draft announcement.

The Associated Press reported in October that no transgender woman had played in the WNBA.

Freedom’s campaign also brought him into a confrontation with arena officials during the Finals.

He left State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Oct. 21 after disputing a requirement that he watch Game 3 from a private luxury suite instead of his purchased seat. Video showed officials telling him he would have to agree to go to the suite to enter.

The arena said the arrangement followed Freedom’s outreach to authorities, the WNBA, the Dream and arena officials about concerns for his personal safety. It said the suite would have additional security and that state police had assigned him an officer at his request.

Freedom insisted he wanted to sit in the seat he purchased. An arena representative said he rejected the suite offered for his safety.

Earlier in the season, the Chicago Sky banned Freedom from home games after his Aug. 23 confrontation with guard Natasha Cloud. Sky owner Michael Alter defended the decision on safety grounds, saying Freedom had made himself a threat by stepping toward Cloud during the exchange.

Freedom’s latest criticism comes with a leadership change already scheduled. Engelbert announced in September that she will retire at the end of 2026, following more than seven years as commissioner.

Microsoft AI beats doctors in simulated diagnosis test

Ever leave a doctor's appointment with more questions than answers? Maybe you've gone through several tests, only to hear that your doctor still isn't sure what's causing your symptoms. That uncertainty can be exhausting, especially when you want answers. Now, Microsoft says its new artificial intelligence system could help doctors solve some of medicine's toughest diagnostic puzzles. And the early numbers are impressive.

In a study published on Oct. 22 in the journal Science, Microsoft's AI diagnostic system correctly identified 83% of complex medical cases, compared with 36% for generalist physicians who could consult reference materials. That's more than twice the accuracy under the study's testing conditions.

However, there's an important catch behind those numbers. The research took place in a simulation, and the doctors weren't specialists working together on difficult cases. Still, the findings raise a fascinating question about how artificial intelligence could change your next visit to the doctor.

AI MAY SPOT DEADLY HEART RISK IN A ROUTINE ECG

How Microsoft's AI diagnostic system works

Microsoft calls its technology the MAI Diagnostic Orchestrator, or MAI-DxO. The system uses multiple AI agents that work together much like a panel of doctors discussing a difficult medical case. Instead of jumping to an immediate answer, the AI begins with limited information. It asks follow-up questions and considers which medical tests might help identify the problem. Then, its AI agents challenge one another's conclusions as new information becomes available.

Think about someone who has unexplained fatigue and several unusual lab results. A doctor might consider one possible explanation before ordering additional tests. Microsoft's system can examine multiple possibilities and reconsider its initial assessment as the evidence changes. That approach could prove especially useful when symptoms overlap across different diseases.

According to Microsoft's published findings, researchers evaluated the technology using 304 complex medical cases from The New England Journal of Medicine . These cases often involve unusual illnesses that challenge even experienced physicians. The results were striking. MAI-DxO correctly diagnosed approximately 83% of those cases. Generalist physicians working alone achieved 36% accuracy when they could use reference materials. Without those resources, their accuracy dropped to 22%. Researchers also tested the system using historical emergency department cases. There, the AI achieved approximately 80% accuracy, compared with 47% for the physician comparison group.

Why the AI versus doctors comparison needs a closer look

Before anyone starts canceling doctor appointments, there's something important to understand about this research. The physicians in the comparison were generalists, including primary care doctors and general internists. They evaluated cases individually, even when they had access to medical reference materials.

However, hospitals typically involve specialists when patients develop particularly difficult medical problems. Those specialists may work together and review additional evidence before reaching a diagnosis. Microsoft did not directly compare its system against teams of medical specialists.

There's another important detail. Microsoft's AI was evaluated across 304 complex cases, while physicians worked through a smaller set of 56 cases held out from the system's development process. That means the headline percentages don't represent two groups completing exactly the same number of cases.

That limits how broadly we can interpret the findings. The researchers also relied on existing medical cases rather than treating patients in real time. While those cases provide a useful challenge, actual medical care can be far more unpredictable.

Patients sometimes struggle to describe symptoms. Medical records may contain gaps, and physical examinations can reveal clues that never appear in a written case summary. The simulation also relied on an AI system to supply information from existing case reports. When certain details weren't available, it could generate plausible responses. That helped researchers create diagnostic conversations, although those interactions cannot fully reproduce the uncertainty doctors encounter with actual patients.

Furthermore, reaching the correct diagnosis represents only part of caring for someone. Doctors must determine the appropriate treatment and understand how individual circumstances affect medical decisions. The study's authors also work for Microsoft, making independent testing especially important before hospitals consider relying on the technology for patient care. For now, Microsoft's results show how well the technology performed under controlled testing conditions. Whether it can deliver similar benefits during everyday patient care remains an open question.

What makes Microsoft's medical AI different?

You might be wondering how this technology compares with ChatGPT or other AI assistants that already answer medical questions. The underlying AI models play a major role in Microsoft's system. In fact, the researchers tested models developed by OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and other companies.

One finding deserves attention. OpenAI's GPT-5 correctly solved approximately 79% of the complex cases when researchers used a basic prompt without Microsoft's orchestration system. Adding MAI-DxO increased accuracy to approximately 83%. That's an improvement, although the underlying AI model already performed remarkably well.

With the newer GPT-5.5 model, the gains were larger on complex cases. Microsoft's orchestration system raised accuracy from approximately 72% to nearly 87% in that comparison. However, the additional system provided little improvement on emergency department cases using the strongest models. These results suggest that much of the diagnostic capability comes from powerful AI models themselves. Microsoft's approach can improve its performance further, depending on the model and medical problem.

Meanwhile, Microsoft CEO of AI Mustafa Suleyman has described the company's larger ambition as "medical superintelligence." The idea involves developing AI systems capable of eventually exceeding today's strongest medical teams in clinical reasoning and coordination. Microsoft is also collaborating with Mayo Clinic on AI technology that could eventually help clinicians anticipate how a patient's medical condition might develop. Those ambitions extend well beyond the capabilities demonstrated in the current study.

Could Microsoft's AI help lower medical costs?

Anyone who has received a surprisingly expensive medical bill knows how quickly diagnostic testing can add up. Microsoft believes its technology could eventually help doctors make better decisions about which tests patients actually need.

During the study, researchers assigned estimated costs to diagnostic procedures. They then measured whether the AI could reach accurate conclusions while avoiding unnecessary testing. In one cost-conscious configuration, MAI-DxO achieved approximately 81% accuracy on complex cases while generating an estimated $2,241 in diagnostic costs per case. The physicians using reference materials averaged approximately $4,725 in estimated diagnostic costs.

However, some configurations designed to maximize AI accuracy generated higher testing costs. The savings depended partly on how researchers adjusted the system. It's important to understand what those dollar amounts represent. Researchers estimated the cost of diagnostic workups, including medical testing and standardized visit expenses. These figures do not represent actual patient bills or the cost of operating the AI. They're estimates based on the simulation, so researchers still need to determine whether the savings would hold up in real hospitals. Nevertheless, reducing unnecessary procedures while preserving diagnostic accuracy could offer significant benefits if future clinical trials confirm the results.

Microsoft prepares to test its AI in real hospitals

The next challenge involves moving beyond simulated medical cases. Microsoft has announced a partnership with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston to evaluate MAI-DxO in clinical environments. Under the planned research, consenting patients will continue receiving standard medical care. They will also interact with Microsoft's AI system as researchers compare its recommendations with physicians' independent assessments. Importantly, doctors will remain responsible for patient treatment.

The study should help researchers understand how well the AI performs when it encounters actual patients and the unpredictable circumstances of a busy hospital. Meanwhile, Microsoft faces competition from other technology companies pursuing similar goals. Google recently published a study in The Lancet involving its own conversational medical AI system, called AMIE. In that study, 98 patients interacted with Google's AI before urgent primary care appointments. Physicians monitored the conversations in real time, and none required a safety-related interruption under the study's predefined criteria.

Participating clinicians also reported that the AI-generated information often helped them prepare for appointments. Although the research was relatively small, it provided an early look at how conversational AI might work alongside doctors. Microsoft's upcoming clinical evaluation will offer another opportunity to examine whether these systems can perform reliably outside controlled simulations.

What this means to you

For now, Microsoft's AI diagnostic system remains a research technology. You cannot rely on it as a replacement for a medical appointment. However, these findings offer a possible preview of where health care could be headed. If AI systems continue improving, your doctor might eventually have access to a powerful digital assistant that can review difficult cases and suggest overlooked possibilities. That could be especially helpful for people who have spent months trying to understand unexplained symptoms.

AI might also help clinicians evaluate test results more efficiently. In the future, that could reduce unnecessary procedures and potentially shorten the time patients spend waiting for answers. Still, accuracy alone should never determine whether a hospital adopts AI for patient care. Doctors need to understand when these systems make mistakes. Patients also deserve clear information about how their medical data gets used and who reviews AI-generated recommendations.

Matt Robertson wins record $1.25 million fishing prize, declares 'trailer trash for life'

NASHVILLE — Matt Robertson just became $1.25 million richer. But don't expect the Kentucky bass fishing pro to pack up and move into a mansion anytime soon.

"We ain't moving out the trailer, baby. Trailer trash for life!" Robertson declared during a Saturday evening news conference after winning World Bass Enterprises' inaugural The Champions tournament on Old Hickory Lake in Tennessee.

The Bassmaster Elite pro backed up a week's worth of trash talk by bringing 20 pounds, 2 ounces of bass to the scales on Championship Saturday, claiming the largest first-place prize in professional bass fishing history.

And despite all that confidence, even Robertson seemed a little overwhelmed by the moment.

"Dude, it's freaking insane. I don't think it's really hit me yet," he said.

Robertson, of Kuttawa, Kentucky, dominated the first two days of competition, then delivered another monster bag Saturday after the weights reset to zero. Pake South finished second with 13 pounds, 7 ounces, taking home $500,000, while Wesley Strader earned $300,000 for third place.

The historic tournament brought together top anglers from the Bassmaster Elite Series and Major League Fishing's Bass Pro Tour, along with two amateur qualifiers, to compete for a record $3.25 million purse.

But for Robertson, the payday is about much more than the money.

A millionaire who's staying in his trailer

Robertson might not be upgrading his own home, but he already knows where some of that $1.25 million is going.

His wife is getting a new vehicle. And he's planning to buy a couple more trailers.

Before the final weigh-in, Robertson told OutKick OutDoors that he'd been eyeing two trailers for sale near his home, one priced around $60,000 and the other around $80,000.

"I'm for sure buying a couple more trailers," he said. "They're bought, and my wife, she gets her new ride."

And after securing the championship, he doubled down on those plans.

"I hate to tell anybody, but them things are sold," he joked.

Behind Robertson's larger-than-life personality, however, is a man who hasn't forgotten where he came from.

"I didn't grow up with much," he explained during his post-victory press conference. "I worked so much paycheck to paycheck ... I went through real struggles in life."

Those experiences, he said, helped prepare him for the pressure of competing for life-changing money.

Robertson admitted that the money will drastically change his life, but he insisted he wasn't particularly nervous about the stakes.

In fact, when OutKick OutDoors asked him what winning would mean before the results were officially announced, he had something else on his mind.

"I want that damn trophy. It's what I want," he said. "Everybody talking about the 1.25. Like, I want the money too, but I want to get my hands on that trophy."

A honey hole, a navigation lock and an unlikely friendship

While Robertson's victory might have looked easy from the leaderboard, it took some unconventional strategy to get there.

Rather than fishing the main lake, he traveled through the navigation lock at Old Hickory Dam to target smallmouth bass in the tailwater below the dam.

Robertson discovered his productive fishing area during practice and made the gamble that the bigger fish would be there when it mattered.

"If I hadn't found that spot, I wouldn't have won this thing," Robertson said.

The strategy certainly paid off. Robertson caught the tournament's only 20-pound bag on Thursday, then added another strong day Friday to secure the top qualifying position for Saturday's championship.

But his honey hole wasn't exactly a secret.

MLF pro Ron Nelson had also discovered productive water below the dam, and the two anglers spent much of the tournament fishing in close proximity.

The two were among just a handful of competitors who ventured below the dam. In fact, Nelson deliberately avoided casting into the area where Robertson had been catching his fish, despite the enormous money at stake.

And Robertson noticed.

"Never knew Ron before this week. Got to know him real well, and dude, there is not another person in the world with as much integrity as him," Robertson told OutKick OutDoors during Saturday's weigh-in.

"Anybody else fishing for this kind of money, he saw where I was catching a lot of fish, and he never came in on me."

As water levels and currents shifted, the two eventually ended up sharing the productive area.

But tournament rules prohibited them from discussing how many fish they had caught, creating an unusual dilemma.

Robertson said he had no idea Nelson was struggling to fill his limit and felt terrible afterward.

"If I'd knew Ron only had two ... I wouldn't even have pulled up down there," he said. "I feel awful about it."

Robertson had been hoping they could both walk away with enormous paydays.

"I was wanting us to win $1.75 million from down there," he said.

Nelson, who ultimately finished sixth and earned $75,000, had equally kind words for his new friend.

"Matt's a heck of a dude," Nelson told OutKick OutDoors. "I don't know him, but I got a new friend now, I guess."

Nelson explained that changing currents had made it difficult to relocate the school of smallmouth he'd found the previous day. And he believed Robertson would have given him more room had he known how badly Nelson needed a few additional bites.

"If he knows I'd needed a couple bites, he'd have probably slid over," Nelson said.

The mutual respect was especially fitting for a tournament that brought together competitors from rival professional fishing circuits.

Robertson and Nelson had never met before The Champions. Three days later, they'd walked away with substantial paychecks and a new friendship.

'The Super Bowl of bass fishing'

Robertson was also quick to credit his faith and a little help from the lock operators for his historic victory.

He recalled learning that the navigation lock was undergoing maintenance early in the tournament, threatening to keep him from reaching the area where he'd found his fish.

Knowing how much his strategy depended on getting through, he said he prayed for the lock to reopen.

When he checked his phone, he discovered the lockmaster had already tried calling him twice. The lock was open, and the operators were waiting for him.

"From that moment, I was stressing before that," Robertson recalled. "And after that, I just ... gave it all to Him and let it go."

Once on the water, Robertson relied on his familiarity with the Tennessee River and its navigation locks to adjust to changing conditions. He caught his winning fish using a small swimbait on a jighead.

The victory capped a tournament that also saw Bassmaster's Team Stars defeat MLF's Team Stripes for the team championship, giving the inaugural event both individual and team bragging rights.

Robertson had nothing but praise for WBE and CEO Brian Bird, saying the organizers had paid attention to both the big details and the small ones.

"This is the Super Bowl of bass fishing. I don't care what anybody says," Robertson declared.

And while he can now claim the sport's richest championship prize, Robertson says he doesn't plan to change who he is.

A new vehicle for his wife? Absolutely. A couple more trailers? Already on the shopping list.

But moving out of his own? Not a chance.

ANDREA PICCIOTTI-BAYER: Colorado's universal preschool revives vile anti-Catholic laws

A father in Colorado pays out of pocket for Catholic preschool while his taxes fund other children’s preschool educations. One of his children has spina bifida, and the family stays in Colorado because Medicaid covers her needs better than anywhere else. An extra $6,000 would go a long way toward helping care for her.

A mother who works at a lumber company, married to a house painter whose work slows every winter, has six children and a seventh on the way. She once assumed Catholic school was only "for rich people."

Another mother started a florist business to help pay tuition. Three of her children attend a Catholic school in Denver, but she could not afford preschool there for her youngest, who now attends a Lutheran preschool in the state program.

"I’m choosing just a faith," she says, "and here I’m being punished for that."

A fourth parent took a lower-paying job at her children’s parish school for a tuition discount, and she has watched families leave because of the cost of pre-K.

I filed an amicus brief with the Supreme Court on behalf of these Catholic families in St. Mary Catholic Parish v. Roy, which the court will hear on Nov. 3. Dan and Lisa Sheley, parents who joined the Archdiocese of Denver and two parishes in challenging the state in court, tell a similar story. The Sheleys have seven children, five already at St. Mary’s, and have spent thousands of dollars out of pocket on a faith-based preschool education the state will not help fund.

Colorado’s "universal" preschool program was supposed to help families like them. It doesn’t, and the reason is a single clause. To participate, a school must promise "equal opportunity," a provision that covers sexual orientation and gender identity, and Catholic schools cannot agree to it without abandoning church teaching on the nature of marriage, human sexuality and identity. Colorado never has to say "Catholic." It only has to write a rule that Catholic schools cannot meet.

DEMOCRATS AIM TO KILL SCHOOL CHOICE FROM WISCONSIN TO THE REST OF THE US

America has seen that move before, under the Blaine amendments, and they are back.

In 1875, at a time of great anti-Catholic bigotry, Speaker of the House James G. Blaine proposed a constitutional amendment barring public money from "sectarian" schools. The real target was Catholic immigrants. The public schools of the day were Protestant, with daily instruction, prayers and hymns built around the King James Bible.

Catholic families that sought instruction for their children in their faith tradition built schools of their own. Blaine’s amendment passed the House overwhelmingly and fell just short in the Senate. The states took up the cause, and roughly three dozen wrote versions into their constitutions. None said "Catholic." None needed to. As Justice Clarence Thomas observed in Mitchell v. Helms (2000), it was an open secret that "sectarian" was code for "Catholic."

Colorado has built the modern version. Its program gives eligible 4-year-olds a benefit worth around $6,000 a year at the school their parents choose. The price of participation is the "equal opportunity" clause, which Catholic schools cannot pay. So they are out.

The Supreme Court has spent recent years undoing the Blaine legacy. In Trinity Lutheran (2017), Espinoza (2020) and Carson (2022), it held that once a state offers a public benefit, it cannot disqualify schools for being religious or for practicing their faith. Colorado’s mandate does the same work in modern vocabulary. Many preschools are willing to accept the state’s terms. But those whose faith includes a view of marriage, sex and the human person the state rejects cannot.

And Colorado’s rules bend for everyone else. Providers may serve only children with disabilities, only low-income children, only children of color, only gender-nonconforming children or only the LGBTQ+ community, and officials can grant further exceptions case by case. But there is no flexibility for Catholic schools. The lawmakers who built the program expected faith-based preschools to be part of it.

The cost of exclusion is measurable. Roughly 1,500 children across 30 schools have been shut out. Enrollment in Catholic preschools has dropped by about 20%. Two preschools have closed.

The request before the Supreme Court is narrow. Colorado already makes room for providers whose missions call them to serve particular communities. It can make room for Catholic ones.

In Masterpiece Cakeshop (2018), 303 Creative (2023) and Chiles (2026), the Supreme Court rebuked Colorado for its intolerance. The justices should tell the state again that the guarantees of the Constitution don’t collapse under the pressure of ideology. A state that offers families support for private education must not close the doors to Catholic schools committed to being Catholic. The Blaine amendments were a stain on American law. They should not return under a new label.

Former Pentagon UFO chief disputes FBI black triangle sighting, says reports lack evidence

The former head of the Pentagon's UFO investigation office is pouring cold water on a mysterious black triangular object reportedly spotted by FBI personnel, telling Fox News Digital that the newly released account lacks the evidence needed to determine what the witnesses actually saw.

Sean Kirkpatrick, the former director of the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), said strange sightings detailed in recently declassified government records should be viewed through an evidence-based lens rather than as proof of something extraterrestrial.

The records include a 2026 sighting involving FBI personnel who reported seeing a dark, nonreflective triangular object with no visible engines, exhaust or conventional propulsion system rise above a mountain ridge before rapidly disappearing into a canyon.

Kirkpatrick, who spent nearly 30 years in the Department of Defense and intelligence community, said the witnesses' FBI backgrounds alone are not enough to validate what they reported seeing.

"There's a lot of people that like to point to folks as being credible witnesses and therefore their testimony must be taken at face value," Kirkpatrick told Fox News Digital. "And that is a classic case of authority bias."

Kirkpatrick said the lack of photographs or other supporting evidence makes it difficult to determine what, if anything, the witnesses encountered.

"Some of this is just, ‘hey, I saw something, I don't know what it is,’" Kirkpatrick said. "People sometimes have a tendency to fill that gap with very extreme beliefs that have time and again proven to be inaccurate and fallible."

He pointed to advanced aerospace technology as one possible explanation for some triangular sightings, comparing them to reports involving the F-117 stealth aircraft before the technology became widely known.

AARO approached UAP reports by examining three broad possibilities, Kirkpatrick said: advanced technology used by a foreign adversary, ordinary objects or sensor effects that are misunderstood, or an extraterrestrial explanation.

"You've got 3 very distinct buckets," Kirkpatrick said.

Each possibility has specific signatures that investigators can compare against data collected from a sighting, he explained.

"When you get data from an observation, actual data, not just a story, you compare that data to those signatures," Kirkpatrick said.

"None of the data that we saw and reviewed and analyzed matches an alien hypothesis theory," he added.

Most of the cases his office examined involved ordinary objects or phenomena that sensors were not designed to recognize. A small number showed signs of possible foreign adversary involvement and were referred to national security officials for further investigation.

But the word "unresolved," which appears in government UAP records, does not necessarily mean investigators encountered something inexplicable, Kirkpatrick cautioned.

"When we say a case is unresolved, it generally means there is no data or there is insufficient data to actually analyze it," Kirkpatrick said. "And so you can't conclude one way or the other."

Investigators may have an idea of what an object likely was based on similar cases, he said, but without sufficient raw data, they cannot reach a definitive conclusion.

Kirkpatrick said some cases released publicly as unresolved had previously been resolved by AARO.

"Many of these cases, we did resolve, and I even briefed several of them to Congress with the answers and what they were and what they were likely to be," Kirkpatrick said.

He said Pentagon leadership directed AARO to remove language explaining what investigators had determined before some cases were released publicly as unresolved.

"Pentagon leadership had told AARO to remove all of the resolution language and put these cases out as unresolved," Kirkpatrick said. "Letting, and I quote, ‘the people make up their own mind,’ which is the absolute worst thing that you could do because all you've done is continue to just feed the flames of conspiracy with a whole bunch of nonsense."

Kirkpatrick did not specify when the directive was issued or which Pentagon leaders were involved.

The War Department separately told Fox News Digital that it is not providing assessments of the newly released files, allowing the public to reach its own conclusions.

"We are not providing any comment or assessment on the files overall or on any specific file, so that the American people can make up their own minds regarding the files," a War Department official said on background.

The department also confirmed that images accompanying the FBI triangular-object report were illustrations rather than photographs of the object itself.

Kirkpatrick said "unidentified" carries a different meaning than "unresolved," though the terms are sometimes used interchangeably.

"Unidentified generally means we can see and characterize an object and we have data to support that characterization, but we don't know what it is," he said.

He pointed to objects shot down over North America following the discovery of a Chinese surveillance balloon in 2023 as examples of objects that were initially unidentified before investigators determined they were balloons.

Other records released by the government stretch back decades, including reports of strange objects near California's Santa Catalina Island in the 1950s.

Kirkpatrick said historical sightings must also be considered alongside the technology that existed at the time, pointing to early high-altitude balloon programs as a possible explanation for some reports of bright objects in the sky.

This is a man who said "America deserved 9/11." He called Hamas "a thousand times better" than Israel and said he would vote for Hamas "every single time." He called Orthodox Jews "inbred," waved off Hamas’s treatment of women and gay people as domestic policy he doesn’t care about, and warned this summer that if American Jews keep supporting Israel, someone "is going to come around and take action."

Omar knew all of it. Everyone did.

Before Monday night, when she appeared for a live conversation and Q&A event in Minneapolis titled "I'm the Host Now!", the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas called her decision to participate "a betrayal of Jewish Minnesotans." Her district includes St. Louis Park, long the center of Jewish life in this state. Her own party’s Jewish caucus said Piker’s brand of hate has no place in Minnesota. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, called his statements reckless and unacceptable. Rep. Angie Craig, Rep. Betty McCollum, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and state Sen. Ron Latz all spoke out. Democratic leaders privately urged her to cancel.

Omar’s answer? Her campaign said the Democratic Party is a "big tent" — and she walked out on stage on Oct. 26, anyway.

Once there, Piker called Republicans "terrorists." Omar called the GOP the "pedophile protection party."

Let’s be clear about what this was. Not an old clip dug up by an opposition researcher. Not a careless remark from a decade ago. It was a deliberate decision, made over the objections of her own party and her own Jewish constituents, at an event built to turn out votes, hosted by state Sen. Omar Fateh, a member of the Twin Cities Democratic Socialists of America.

Rep. Omar didn’t stumble into this. She calculated that a sold-out crowd was worth more than the trust of the Jewish families she represents. That isn’t a lapse in judgment. It is her judgment.

And it fits. This is a congresswoman who has already had to apologize for trafficking in antisemitic tropes, who treats half the country as an enemy and calls it courage.

Minnesota’s Fifth District deserves better. The district is home to families worried about violent crime, grocery bills, rent and whether their kids will have the opportunities they did. It is also home to immigrants who came here because they believe in America and to Jewish Minnesotans who should never have to wonder whether their own congresswoman takes threats against them seriously.

During my time with the State Patrol, I never asked anyone’s party before responding to a crash. Public service means serving everyone — including the people who didn’t vote for you.

I’m a Republican, and I won’t pretend otherwise. I believe the border must remain secure, violent criminals and fraudsters must be held accountable, families need relief from the cost of living, and police officers deserve support, not contempt. I believe America is worth defending.

Colombia's 'El Tigre' takes fight to cartels as Trump alliance takes shape

President Abelardo de la Espriella means business when it comes to his war against the cartels. Colombia's new president, known by the nickname of ‘El Tigre’, was voted in on a law and order ticket and so far his actions in fighting the cartels are seemingly paying dividends — not just in Colombia but in Washington too.

Recently, he arrived at the Barranquilla police command around the early hours of the morning as 587 police officers and soldiers raided 50 locations across the Caribbean port city and its suburbs in Operation Blindaje 360. A few days earlier, domestic Colombian news outlets had widely publicized a recording intercepted by Colombian police of "Keko", the alleged leader of a gang called "Los del Freseo" boasting that de la Espirella had nothing on him.

"The Tiger's got nothing. Let him come out, and we'll put lead in him," Keko allegedly said on the recording.

Then, before dawn, Colombia's president had tracked him down and was face to face with him, all caught on tape.

According to a video released by his presidential office, El Tigre told Keko the gang leader was "a tough guy on the phone… but the look of the fear on his face matched that of his many victims". The sweep ended with 72 arrests.

The theatrics played to a large audience who long argued that former leftist Gustavo Petros’s policy of pursuing engagement with drug traffickers and through conversation and peace talks had left Colombia more vulnerable to organized crime and further articulation between Colombian and Venezuelan cartels that had been dominating the space left by the power vacuum which emerged from effective law-enforcement control.

His government is also seeking to reverse former President Gustavo Petro’s "total peace" policy, which pursued negotiations with several armed organizations. Before taking office, de la Espriella announced that he would dismantle key elements of the policy and reactivate arrest warrants against members of illegal armed groups.

Nearly three months into his term, the 48-year-old lawyer has scrapped his leftist predecessor's "total peace" talks, ordered every armed group treated as a terrorist organization and claims more than 32,000 arrests. He is doing it arm in arm with Washington.

A dual U.S.-Colombian citizen who lived in Miami before running for president, he has brought Colombia into President Donald Trump's anti-cartel coalition. Last month, he personally handed a guerrilla boss accused of supplying Mexico's Sinaloa Cartel to DEA agents with his hands and feet shackled.

The prisoner, Geovany Andrés Rojas, alias "Araña," is alleged to have led the "Comandos de la Frontera" dissidents and now faces narco-terrorism charges in Southern California.

"The option of dialogue is completely exhausted," de la Espriella told troops after his Aug. 7 inauguration. In an Oct. 12 address, he put the tally at 32,503 arrests, 33 ringleaders taken out of action and 679 drug-production sites destroyed or disabled. He has signed more than 100 extradition orders, including five for former armed-group peace negotiators wanted in the U.S. whose handovers the previous government had frozen.

The offensive reaches deep into the countryside, where conflict monitor ACLED counted August as the deadliest month for clashes between security forces and armed groups since it began tracking Colombia in 2018.

In late August he warned FARC dissident chief Iván Mordisco: "When you least expect it, a bomb is going to fall on you." Two days later, he walked among the bagged bodies of 23 suspected dissidents at an army base in Guaviare, and troops killed the top commander of a paramilitary-rooted trafficking group in La Guajira.

Colombia became the 19th member of Trump's Shield of the Americas coalition in August, and War Secretary Pete Hegseth said Bogotá had authorized "joint military operations to destroy terrorists and terror networks domestically." The administration has pledged $1 billion in security aid, pending congressional approval, and Marine Gen. Francis Donovan, head of U.S. Southern Command, has toured Colombian bases.

However, speaking on-camera to Fox News Digital, Colombian Vice President José Manuel Restrepo said while his country is embracing President Donald Trump’s push for a new security alliance across the Western Hemisphere, he drew a clear line on the role American forces would play inside Colombia, saying Colombian troops — not U.S. forces — will carry out operations against the country’s armed groups.

According to Benjamin Gedan, a senior fellow and director of the Latin America Program at the Stimson Center in Washington who previously served as a South America Director in the White House, the last few years were an outlier:

"For decades, the United States and Colombia closely cooperated to fight guerrillas and organized crime. Plan Colombia was celebrated by both Republicans and Democrats. The Colombian military is well-trained and battle-tested. Renewed close cooperation between Bogotá and Washington is a cornerstone of the renewed U.S. focus on security in Latin America," he said.

"Still, flashy military strikes on criminal targets will not answer the mail. These groups are well-armed, well-funded, and thrive in regions with little state presence. Images of criminals in body bags may give the impression of forward progress after the failed strategy of Colombia’s last leader, much as videos of exploding speedboats have become the calling card of the Shield of the Americas. In both cases, a more sophisticated strategy is needed to deal lasting blows to criminal groups," Gedan argued.

CRIME, KIDNAPPINGS AND DRONE ATTACKS FLAGGED IN US WARNING FOR BORDER REGION

Oscar Palma, a professor of Security Studies at the University of Rosario in Bogotá, said it is still a little too early to assess the change in policies and affirm they will be fruitful within the Colombian context. "Beyond the policing acts themselves, there is the subjective feeling of security with debates within Colombian society on whether this open war strategy brings more or less security to the population. Many argue that the gangs are acting now more forcefully to defend their territories and business deals, while others believe that a strong police presence will eventually lead to less organized crime."

Palma said there is a false dichotomy between having to choose all-out war or dialogue in order to achieve peace with groups such as the FARC and other gang leaders: "It is a fiction that you will come to zero combatants simply pursuing one strategy or the other—all-out war will never zero down those combating in the FARC and organized crime just as peace talks, especially if carried out in a misguided policy such as the one led by [Gustavo] Petros, will achieve real results."

He said, "A better example is the strategy carried out by President [Juán Manuel] Santos during the dealings with the FARC, which led to a much safer Colombia: there were talks, but those were part of a bigger strategy of also fighting these groups with arms and bringing them to justice," he added.

Terry Bradshaw opens up about his 'demon in the night' depression in new memoir

Terry Bradshaw wants men to know they aren’t alone.

The FOX Sports analyst and four-time Super Bowl champion told "Fox & Friends" that "Looking for Terry: A Memoir" was a hard sell to his publisher because it isn’t about football. Instead, Bradshaw decided to open up about his longtime battle with depression.

"I haven’t been public with it as much, that’s why I came out with this book," the Pittsburgh Steelers legend said during his Oct. 14 interview.

On the surface, Bradshaw exudes a cheerful demeanor, which he said might surprise those he opens up to about his mental health struggles. He’s had a prolific career both in the NFL and as a television sports analyst, and has built a reputation as a "tough guy."

"People think, well, if you’re dealing with depression — I’m not dealing with depression right now," Bradshaw said.

The Hall of Fame quarterback said depression often "rears its ugly head," but he stresses that it doesn’t rob him of his personality. Bradshaw describes it as a sickening feeling that comes over him at times and is challenging to snap out of.

In "Looking for Terry," he wants readers, especially men, to be more vulnerable about their emotional struggles.

Women might be more likely to get help, he said, but men often turn instead to "a few drinks and some drugs."

One of Bradshaw’s most challenging bouts with depression came during the 1999 Super Bowl in Miami, where he was working as a broadcaster. He told Fox News co-host Brian Kilmeade that he couldn’t get out of bed.

He said his depression can emerge like a "demon in the night" during times of stress, family issues or when he is tired.

Today, he has someone to lean on in his wife, Tammy. She even has a name for his depression: Roy.

"She says to me, ‘Is Roy showing his ugly head?’" he explained. "I say yeah, and then we start talking about it, and I’m telling you, it’s like the greatest gift in the world just to have someone you can share that with."

Gov Hochul's cameo in Cornell sex-assault documentary casts ‘air of impropriety’ over investigation: attorney

Amid the renewed investigation into seven men accused of sexually assaulting a woman at Cornell, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has drawn backlash for appearing in a Netflix documentary about the case and commenting on the allegations.

None of the seven men have been criminally charged. Hochul signed an executive order in October assigning New York Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor to investigate the case.

In the newly released documentary titled "Instadocs: Jane Doe v. Cornell," Hochul appears around 13 minutes into the film, expressing her own reaction to news surrounding the case.

Fox News contributor Donna Rotunno, a criminal defense attorney and host of the "Crime and Justice with Donna Rotunno" podcast, criticized Hochul for her appearance on the documentary, warning that her remarks exacerbate existing concerns over the prosecution's fairness.

ASHBURN, Va. — Young Americans could be earning six-figure salaries without taking on college debt as the artificial intelligence boom fuels demand for skilled electricians, according to a veteran tradesman who says he has never struggled to find work in his 26-year career.

Andrew Miller, who raised six children while working in the trades, said the rapid expansion of data centers is creating lucrative opportunities for young workers seeking financial independence without a traditional four-year college degree.

"You don't have the debt that you incur in college," Miller told Fox News Digital inside one of Northern Virginia's largest data centers.

He also explained the one of the reasons why Northern Virginia is one of the wealthiest enclaves in the U.S. is "directly linked to data centers and data center development." Miller claimed areas that reject the data center boom — like California — are seeing wealth leave the state.

Miller said thanks to the explosion in the industry, electricians can earn six-figure salaries after completing their training, noting: "That is life changing to a 22, 23 year old individual."

"They cannot produce enough electricians fast enough," he said. "I have never been without work in all my career even through recessions."

While Miller acknowledged that the federal government's presence in Northern Virginia has historically helped sustain employment, he said the rapid expansion of data centers is expected to create even greater demand.

"Now with data centers expanding it's going to just increase the demand for our trade," he said.

Northern Virginia has earned the nickname "Data Center Alley" for its massive concentration of data centers, with Loudoun County at the heart of the nation's rapidly expanding AI infrastructure.

As of March 2026, more than 230 data centers had been built or were under construction in the county, with another 116 projects in the pipeline.

Bill McGraw of electrical contractor J.E. Richards said apprenticeship programs offer an alternative to traditional college degrees, allowing participants to receive classroom instruction while gaining paid, hands-on experience.

McGraw said apprentices accepted into a program through International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 26 can start at approximately $27 to $28 an hour, even without previous experience.

At the journeyman level, McGraw cited wages of approximately $62 an hour, equivalent to nearly $129,000 annually based on a 40-hour workweek year-round, before overtime.

Don Slaiman said Local 26's hiring hall has grown from fewer than 9,000 workers to more than 17,500 amid Northern Virginia's data center boom.

The demand extends beyond construction, with electricians needed for ongoing maintenance, equipment upgrades and infrastructure improvements.

"There's always continuous work there," McGraw said.

The economic benefits also reach surrounding communities. Miller said a single data center construction project can employ as many as 2,000 craft workers, generating business for local restaurants, housing providers and other services.

"Those craft workers are gonna need a place to eat, sleep. They're gonna live in the community," Miller said.

With artificial intelligence accelerating demand for new facilities, Slaiman said the growing industry offers workers a path to financial stability and opportunities to support their families.

"We're going to need more data centers and we're going to build them and we are going to give great careers to folks," Slaiman said, adding that those jobs can help workers "raise a family and live the American dream."

MINNEAPOLIS — The day after Rep. Ilhan Omar's first public appearance since the raid on her home, Fox News Digital was given a tour of the mall where she reemerged in her home state.

The footage provides a glimpse inside an enclave within America that is dominated by Somalis and Somali culture, and a gives a peak into the community that Omar represents in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The mall isn't just a place for people to buy clothing, food and receive services, but is a "community hub" of mostly women entrepreneurs, as described by a female shop owner.

"We're here today are Karmel Mall with brother Basim, to kind of browse through this amazing community, corridor that is full of amazing women," she told Fox News Digital, referring the Karmel Mall of Somalia's owner, Basim Sabri, who provided the tour.

Sabri, a Gaza-born immigrant, came to the United States to study in Minneapolis. During that time, he became a real-estate investor and steadily grew his business in the years to come. Now, he's a local titan of industry and owns a vast real estate empire, which includes the mall and several apartment complexes in the area that house Somalis. He has political ties at all levels of local and state politics, and is friends with Omar. He also knew the Somali-born congresswoman's father.

Fox News Digital interviewed him separately, days before the official tour of the mall.

For most inside, English is the mall's second language. It's packed with stores offering electronic SIM cards to call overseas, foreign money exchanges and travel agencies arranging trips to the Middle East and East Africa. Vendors also sell gold, fragrances and traditional Somali fashion items, mostly for women.

There are Somali barber shops, cafes, traditional Somali food vendors and henna tattoo shops. Sabri gave conflicting figures on the exact number of stores, once saying 900, and later 750.

It sports a food court with a giant Somali flag painted on the ceiling, as well as Somali, Palestinian and American flags hanging from the walls. Many politicians use that space for press conferences, Sabri explained.

It's also where Omar ate lunch with friends, supporters and state Attorney General Keith Ellison during Fox News Digital's foray into the mall when the lawmaker reemerged after casting an early ballot in her own reelection.

Karmel Mall also has an Islamic weekend school for children, where they're taught the Quran and engage in recreational activities.

While the mall isn't strictly for Somalis, few outside the Somali community were present when Fox News Digital toured. Fox News Digital was initially bucked by security upon attempting to enter and film inside the mall without Sabri's permission.

The owner once banned Democratic Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey from the premises in February 2024 after he vetoed an Israel-Gaza ceasefire resolution passed by the City Council.

"It is kind of an incubator setting where many businesses start in here, and then many succeed and grow and move somewhere else, to a bigger space," Sabri explained to Fox News Digital.

He claims that the mall is a space where Somalis learn to integrate into the community.

"You can see [the] Somalis not only integrating in the community, but also prospering," he said. "Somalis are very smart business individuals."

But the mall's very name — the Karmel Mall of Somalia — along with the overwhelmingly Somali culture inside, raise questions about whether the group is actually assimilating into American society.

Steven Camerota is the director for research at the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS). He pointed Fox News Digital to a CIS report published in December of last year that describes Somalis as a "struggling group."

The report shows that more than half of children who live in the homes of Somali-born immigrants in Minnesota live in poverty, compared to only 8% of children living in homes of native-born Minnesotans. Among Somali-born immigrants who have lived in the United States for more than a decade, half cannot speak English "very well." The report says that 89% of Somali households receive some form of welfare, and 39% don't have high school diplomas, compared to only 8% of the native population.

Camerota argued that across America, assimilation among various foreign-born groups, including Somalis, has dropped, though today's immigration numbers are about the same they were during America's first great wave of immigration.

In the late 19th- and early 20th-centuries, immigrations from across the world flooded the United States. During that time, immigrants comprised about 15% of America's population, on par with todays numbers. After World War I, restrictive immigration policies that lasted until the 1960s took effect. In more recent history, immigration has ramped up to the tune of one million legal immigrants per year entering the United States, Camerota said.

"So, there are three big things about modern immigration that you can argue greatly hinder assimilation, and it has much less to do with the immigrants, and a lot more to do with just modern conditions," he told Fox News Digital. "The first is technology. You can fly home and visit home for the holidays if you want. In a way that just wouldn't have been possible in 1900, and in terms of costs."

Camerota noted that the internet allows people access to constant news from home, and the constant ability to stay connected with family and friends via phone and video calls.

"So this technology, travel and communications is fundamentally different today than in the past. And that likely means that the connection with the home country doesn't become as attenuated as quickly as it would have," he said.

The attitudes of those who Camerota characterizes as "elites," in academia, government, media and other institutions has also changed. He said there are now dueling theories about the what exactly America is that could be contributing to a lack of assimilation.

"So is America essentially a magnificent historical project of democracy and equality and republican government, or is it essentially — most of that's a sham and it's really a racist, sexist, homophobic [and] classist society?" he said. "The immigrants are arriving in a country in many ways that received both those messages, and so this elite attitude which permeates down is just so different than the world of the last great wave of immigration and almost certainly matters a great deal."

Essentially, Camerota argued, if immigrants adopt the narrative that America is a fundamentally flawed nation, there is little reason for them to assimilate.

"The word assimilation itself is seen as a bad word in many circles. The idea that immigrants are supposed to shed their their old culture and become American is now seen as a kind of for some — I don't want to say universally for all — but some fraction of it at least, as an undesirable Anglo conformity," he continued.

"We are living in a country that can't really agree itself about its own history, let alone agree on what it wants from the immigrants."

The third important fact to assimilation in Camerota's mind is the sheer number of immigrants coming to the United States.

"The last point is numbers," he said. "So, we're at a record high now, right? 15% of the population is foreign born. It's matched the levels of between 1890 and 1910 ... during the last peak of the last great wave. But the one question then has to be asked, what happened then?"

He said the immigration restriction of the mid 20th-century necessarily resulted in assimilation, as immigrants could not endlessly build enclaves for more and more foreign-born residents, as is happening today.

"I think it's pretty clear it likely played a very big role in facilitating the assimilation of the immigrants," he said, suggesting that a similar immigration restriction could have the same effect if implemented now.

Sabri has faced troubles of his own.

In 2005, he was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for bribing a local Minneapolis public official. He told Fox News Digital in the first interview about his time in prison, which included a brief stay at the infamous Federal Correctional Institution, Leavenworth in Kansas, in colorful detail.

In that interview, he also insisted that the mall is for everyone.

"But my experience is that Somalis are very, very intelligent and extremely hard-working people," he said.

Shooting after Magic City Classic in Alabama leaves 1 dead, 8 injured

One person was killed and eight others were wounded in a shooting following the Magic City Classic college football game in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday evening, authorities said.

The Birmingham Police Department said officers responded shortly after 7:50 p.m. to the 400 block of Graymont Avenue West, near Legion Field, where they found nine gunshot victims.

One person was pronounced dead, police said. Another remained in critical condition, while seven others were in stable condition.

Police have not identified a suspect, and no arrests have been announced.

Authorities said they recovered multiple firearms at the scene.

The event typically draws more than 100,000 fans to Birmingham each year and features a parade and large pregame tailgates in addition to the football game, according to the event's website.

All remaining tailgating activities were canceled following the shooting.

With just two days until Americans head to the polls, voters from across the country revealed that their midterm decisions may be driven more by frustration with what they oppose than by support for what they believe in.

"The Democrats down the line because Trump is an idiot," one voter from Colorado said when asked by Fox News Digital how he plans to vote.

"I'm a Democratic voter," Lucy from Washington, D.C., said. "I am sick of the administration. I have been very upset about what's happening to this city and this area and this country — all the lies."

Despite President Donald Trump not appearing on the midterm ballot, most Democrat voters whom Fox News Digital spoke with cited his administration as their driving factor to vote for Democrats for this year’s congressional slate.

"Democrats," Mark from Utah said about who he is voting for. "Because of corruption, cost of living, democracy. It doesn't seem like this administration cares about the Constitution. The president's enriching himself and the rest of the country is getting more poor."

Control of Congress is at stake in the midterms, with Democrats seeking to gain enough seats to challenge Trump's legislative agenda during the remainder of his presidency.

One Democrat voter even acknowledged his agreement with some Republican policies, but noted his opposition to Trump outweighs his right-leaning stances.

"I generally vote Democrat," Jeremy from New York said.

He continued, "It's funny because I agree with a lot of the Republican stances. I just feel like when you get behind someone who's unfortunately in charge, like the man that is, then this is something I can't really support."

Another voter said he voted for Trump and Republicans in previous elections, but has decided to vote Democrat in the upcoming election because he claims there was a lack of follow-through by the Trump administration.

Opposition wasn't limited to Democrat voters. The few voters who told Fox News Digital they planned to vote Republican also expressed concerns about the opposing party as major factors in their midterm decisions.

"I'm voting Republican," Yago said. "The reason why is because I do not want to see socialism in this country. Socialism did nothing but destroy everything."

"First off, just social policies," John from Illinois said about what’s motivating him to vote red. "I think that over the past couple of years, we've seen what the Democrats promote, as far as social policies go, and family policy, gender policy, all that stuff. I think particularly abortion, too."

Other voters pointed to specific issues driving their decisions, including immigration enforcement, foreign policy, gun rights and the economy.

"My main concern is probably just everything that's happening with ICE and DHS," Emily from Texas, who plans to vote Democrat, said.

Seattle's effort to protect renters allegedly helped destroy a $39 million investment meant to provide affordable housing, sending a 254-unit apartment complex that served lower-income residents into receivership. Now, its owners have scored a court victory in a battle that could influence similar fights in Philadelphia and other Democrat-led cities.

The Washington Court of Appeals ruled Monday that GRE Downtowner LLC, the company behind Seattle's 254-unit Addison on Fourth affordable housing development, can proceed with claims that the city's sweeping rental regulations amounted to an unconstitutional taking of private property. GRE alleges the restrictions, including an ordinance requiring landlords to accommodate certain additional occupants without their consent, sent rent collections plummeting, triggered millions in losses and ultimately made the once-viable affordable housing investment financially unsustainable.

The development operated under the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, which offers tax incentives to private investors in exchange for providing rent-restricted apartments to lower-income residents. Sean Flynn, executive director of the Rental Housing Association of Washington, explained that while such developments typically generate relatively modest profits, the federal tax credits make them financially attractive to investors, helping bring private money into affordable housing projects that might otherwise struggle to get built.

Flynn, who is working with GRE Downtowner in its case against the City of Seattle, told Fox News Digital that the city's successive ordinances targeting landlords ultimately created a "toxic cocktail of legislation" that took a functioning affordable housing property and "destroyed it."

According to court filings, GRE's investment initially proved financially viable, with the property generating positive cash flow from 2015 through 2018. But as Seattle enacted a series of ordinances restricting criminal-background checks, expanding tenants' ability to bring additional occupants into their apartments, limiting certain evictions and requiring relocation assistance following qualifying rent increases, GRE alleges its rent collections collapsed from 93.9% in 2018 to just 44.1% in 2023, contributing to nearly $5.8 million in cumulative operating losses.

The financial deterioration ultimately culminated in a federal judge appointing a receiver in January 2026 to take control of the property following a mortgage default.

"The policies they're passing are detrimental to the folks they're actually trying to help," Flynn warned, arguing that excessive restrictions on landlords ultimately hurt renters by discouraging housing investment. "No one will invest to build more housing if they believe that the government can come in and effectuate a taking – to take the property out from under them – and they have no legal recourse."

"What this decision says is government, you can regulate, you can regulate to your heart's content," Flynn added. "But if your regulations amount to the point of which you take my real property, I'm allowed to sue you for it."

Ilya Somin, a George Mason University law professor specializing in constitutional law and property rights, told Fox News Digital that the ruling is more consequential than a routine procedural decision but cautioned against overstating its broader impact.

"This is only moderately significant, but it's more significant than just a routine legal decision that only affects the people immediately involved," Somin said, explaining that courts in other states could consider the Washington ruling when weighing similar constitutional challenges. He also said the case could theoretically go to the U.S. Supreme Court, but said that was fairly unlikely.

Seattle is hardly alone in imposing sweeping restrictions on landlords. San Francisco has long enforced rent controls and limits on evictions, and New York City expanded eviction protections in 2024 under the state's Good Cause Eviction law, limiting landlords' ability to remove certain tenants or refuse lease renewals while allowing renters to challenge excessive rent increases. Portland, Oregon, limits landlords' use of criminal histories when screening prospective tenants and requires relocation payments following certain rent increases of 10% or more. Philadelphia has also adopted restrictions involving criminal-history screening. These policies reflect a broader push to strengthen renters' rights in major Democrat-led cities, even as property owners raise concerns about the consequences of increasingly restrictive housing regulations.

"Once upon a time in Seattle, you could stand from my office and you could see crane after crane after crane building housing," Flynn said. "They're gone, and they're not coming back."

Flynn argued that the resulting decline in investment ultimately hurts ordinary renters, leaving them with fewer housing options and higher costs.

"When you take the investment incentive out of providing a product, you get worse products at a higher cost," he said. "Investors listen and they vote with their feet. And as a result, there's less housing and the housing that is available is of lesser quality."

The Seattle City Attorney's Office told Fox News Digital that officials are reviewing the appellate ruling and weighing their next steps. "We haven't made a decision on an appeal yet," Chief of Staff Dan Nolte said in an email Thursday.

"I believe the plaintiffs in this case deserve to win at least on that roommate provision," Somin told Fox News Digital, referring to Seattle's restrictions on landlords' ability to exclude certain additional occupants from rental properties.

Somin pointed to the Supreme Court's 6-3 decision in Cedar Point Nursery v. Hassid , which ruled that a California regulation requiring agricultural employers to allow union organizers onto their private property constituted a physical taking under the Fifth Amendment. He argued that Seattle's Roommate Ordinance raises a similar constitutional question because it requires landlords to accommodate additional occupants with whom they never entered into a rental agreement.

"I think the strongest per se argument is simply an argument against this provision of the ordinance, which says they have to take these people who they never made any contract with at all, never screened, and so on," Somin said. "The additional requirement to let them on their land is going beyond what's in the contract, and the same thing you know would apply here in the Seattle case."

Following the unfortunate loss of starting quarterback Julian Sayin to an elbow injury during the Indiana game two weeks ago, the fate of the Buckeyes season rested on the arms of Luke Fahey and freshman Taven St. Clair.

The nervousness around Columbus has been rampant since that day in Bloomington, and rightfully so given that Ryan Day had pinned his offensive hopes around the quarterback being able to disrupt opposing defenses with the Julian Sayin to Jeremiah Smith connection.

As for Ohio State moving forward, there is nothing about their performance against USC that should give the CFP committee enough evidence to put them in the top-12 on Tuesday night.

No, we aren’t at that point just yet, but we're getting there. Over the next five weeks, Ohio State will face Northwestern, Oregon, Nebraska and Michigan.

The Buckeyes defense isn’t strong enough to carry them through the month of November, especially if this is what they are going to get from the offensive side of the ball.

Give credit where it's due with this USC football team.

Coming off a loss to Wisconsin this week, with reasonable conversations surrounding his job status with the Trojans, the talk of Riley coaching somewhere else next season started picking up enough that he could not avoid the questions over the past five days.

Bill Belichick, the day his UNC Tar Heels were set to face the No. 1 Miami Hurricanes in Chapel Hill, was the center of more off-field noise regarding his relationship.

This time, though, it was reported the 74-year-old actually ended things with 25-year-old Jordon Hudson over a year ago, per TMZ. They remain "committed to their business partnerships" and "remain close friends."

Nonetheless, a game had to be played, and Belichick and UNC were certainly not thinking about his relationship status. They wanted to give Miami a run for their money.

The Tar Heels came close to upsetting the Hurricanes, but they ran out of gas in the fourth quarter in a 38-35 loss to move to 4-4 on the season. Miami stayed undefeated, improving to 8-0 on the year and 6-0 in ACC play.

No one expected Belichick's squad to be able to handle the Hurricanes, led by Mario Cristobal. But just as Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah continued his efficient play this season, Billy Edwards Jr. was matching him when the Tar Heels had the ball.

Edwards threw for 341 yards on 28-of-34 through the air with four touchdown passes, including a 16-yard strike to Jordan Shipp to take a 21-17 lead — UNC’s first of the game — in the third quarter.

From there, both teams were trading blows, and the lead, on the scoreboard. Miami responded with an 80-yard drive to retake their lead, 24-21, but UNC continued to fight on while crushing clock heading into the fourth quarter.

Edwards led a 16-play, 75-yard drive capped with a touchdown run by Demon June from one yard out. There was a lot of time left in this ballgame, which Miami knew despite some shock of what UNC was doing to them at home.

Mensah wasn’t fazed, though, as yet another touchdown drive came from the Hurricanes thanks to key catch-and-runs, including a 31-yard burst from star receiver Malachi Toney. Mark Fletcher Jr. regained the Miami lead with a two-yard run and 7:49 left on the clock.

The way this game was going, it seemed Belichick and UNC would have a chance if they were able to get the ball last. However, a grave error slammed the door shut on those chances.

Edwards was strip-sacked by Marquise Lightfoot, and Miami recovered at the UNC 37-yard line. That was the defensive stop needed to swing the tides of momentum, and Mensah didn’t thwart that opportunity.

Toney caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from his quarterback, and with a 10-point lead with 2:33 left to go, it was eventually the separation needed to leave Chapel Hill without Miami’s record being blemished. But it didn’t come without sweating until the end.

UNC would score on the ensuing possession to make things interesting, as Edwards threw for his fourth touchdown of the game with 1:38 left to play. Then, needing to recover an onside kick, the Tar Heels actually came away with it — until a yellow flag was seen on the turf. Offsides was called.

On the second try, UNC recovered again, but another flag negated it as a Tar Heels player hit the Miami player trying to recover the ball before crossing the necessary 10 yards.

The third try was finally recovered by the Hurricanes, and they ran the clock out.

The Cougars blanked the Sun Devils in the fourth quarter. After a 45-yard field goal put BYU ahead for good, running back Sione Moa scored from 1 yard out to seal the victory with just over two minutes remaining.

Arizona State quarterback Jake Fette finished the late afternoon with 166 yards and two touchdowns, but the Sun Devils suffered their third road loss to a top-10 opponent this season.

Fette threw two third-quarter touchdown passes as Arizona State erased a 14-point deficit. The Sun Devils converted three third downs on their first scoring drive, which ended with Omarion Miller’s 20-yard touchdown catch. They then converted two fourth downs on the next drive before Anthony Miller Jr.’s 1-yard scoring reception tied the game at 17.

Adrian Wilson recovered a fumble by Kyler Kasper at the BYU 39-yard line, setting up Arizona State’s second touchdown drive. It was a turbulent start for Fette in his first career start.

He fumbled on the third play of Arizona State’s opening drive. Isaiah Glasker pounced on the ball at the Sun Devil 29, setting up BYU’s first touchdown.

Ironically, the Cougars scored following another fumble. Moa scooped up the ball after Bachmeier coughed it up inside the ASU 1 and scampered over the goal line to put BYU up 7-0.

Next week, BYU will travel to Salt Lake City for an in-state rivalry game against Utah, while Arizona State will host Colorado in Tempe.

Earlier Saturday, Colorado survived a scare from Kansas State to win in overtime and snap the Buffaloes’ losing streak.

SAN FRANCISCO – Angel Reese scored one point and did not attempt a field goal in the fourth quarter of Game 7. The Atlanta Dream needed more from her with a championship on the line.

The Golden State Valkyries beat Atlanta 68-63 on Saturday night at Chase Center, winning the best-of-seven WNBA Finals 4-3 to claim the franchise’s first championship.

Reese finished with eight points on 3-for-7 shooting, 12 rebounds and four turnovers. It was her fourth consecutive game with more turnovers than made field goals. Across those four games, she shot 12-for-45 (26.7%) and committed 19 turnovers.

Golden State guard Gabby Williams delivered the performance Atlanta needed from its star. She was named Finals MVP after scoring 30 points, including 28 in the second half, and blocking four shots in the clincher. Her 31-foot three-pointer with 2:18 remaining broke a 57-57 tie and put Golden State ahead for good.

Reese’s only point in the final period came on a free throw with 18.6 seconds remaining.

Before tipoff, both teams again left the court for the national anthem, completing the seven-game series without appearing on the floor for any of the performances.

Reese’s Finals had looked much different when Atlanta held a 2-1 series lead.

She combined for 51 points and 28 rebounds in Games 2 and 3, then explained how she believed she was getting into Golden State’s head.

"They’re playing into my mental game where I can take their confidence and just try to do whatever to mess them up," Reese said before Game 4.

The Valkyries won the next two games. Atlanta forced Game 7 with an 80-69 victory Thursday behind Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard’s combined 44 points, but Reese continued to struggle with her shooting, making five of 18 attempts.

She finished the final four games with 38 points, 13 fewer than she scored in Games 2 and 3 combined.

Saturday offered a chance to finish the series differently. Instead, Jordin Canada carried Atlanta’s offense for much of the night, while Reese never became a scoring factor down the stretch.

The Dream went scoreless for the first 5:19 as Golden State built an 8-0 lead. Reese finally put Atlanta on the board with a basket off an offensive rebound.

Atlanta recovered to trail just 14-12 after one quarter, and Reese’s three-pointer early in the second gave the Dream their first lead.

Canada scored 11 points in the second quarter and had 13 at halftime. Golden State went more than eight minutes without a field goal to begin the period, allowing Atlanta to take a 30-24 lead into the break.

Reese had five points, seven rebounds and three turnovers at halftime. Williams had just two points.

The Dream extended their lead to 37-28 midway through the third quarter. Then Williams took over.

She scored Golden State’s final 13 points of the period, including three three-pointers in a 56-second span. Reese answered one of those threes with a hook through contact, but missed the accompanying free throw. It was her last basket of the night.

Williams’ turnaround jumper with 1:05 remaining gave the Valkyries a 45-44 lead entering the fourth. She scored 15 points in the quarter and added 13 more in the final period.

Allisha Gray’s two free throws tied the game at 55 with 3:15 left. Williams answered with a driving layup. Howard tied it again at 57 before Williams buried the three from 31 feet.

After Gray missed a wide-open layup, Williams made two free throws to push Golden State’s lead to five with 1:40 remaining.

Kiah Stokes then delivered on the offensive glass. She rebounded two consecutive Williams misses, converting the second into a putback that stretched the lead to 64-57 with 53.8 seconds left.

Gray’s three-pointer brought Atlanta within four, but Tiffany Hayes answered with two free throws.

Reese grabbed an offensive rebound and drew a foul with 18.6 seconds remaining. She missed the first free throw and made the second, leaving Atlanta down five.

She then stole a Williams pass, and Gray made two free throws to cut the deficit to 66-63 with 10.5 seconds left. Veronica Burton’s two free throws with 5.1 seconds remaining secured the victory.

Stokes finished with eight points, 13 rebounds and two blocks. Burton added 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Hayes scored 11.

Canada led Atlanta with 18 points, and Gray added 16. Howard finished with six points on 3-for-14 shooting, missing all seven of her three-point attempts. The Dream shot 33.3% overall and went 6-for-30 from beyond the arc.

Reese finished the series averaging 14.7 points and 12.9 rebounds while shooting 40.5% from the field.

After Game 3, she had explained how she measures greatness.

"I think you become one of the greats … when you can win and impact winning," Reese said.

She helped put Atlanta two wins from a championship. Across the final four games, she didn't do enough for the Dream to finish the job.

NYC woman critically injured after being stabbed multiple times while jogging along Brooklyn waterfront

A 28-year-old woman was critically injured after being stabbed multiple times in the neck while jogging along a Brooklyn waterfront path Friday night, New York City police confirmed to Fox News Digital.

The attack occurred around 8 p.m. near Shore Parkway and Bay 17th Street in Brooklyn's Bath Beach neighborhood, according to the New York Police Department.

Police said the woman was jogging eastbound along the Shore Parkway Greenway when she suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck.

Emergency medical personnel transported her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in critical condition.

An NYPD spokesperson confirmed to Fox News Digital on Saturday that the woman remained alive.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, New York Road Runners (NYRR), which organizes the marathon, expressed sympathy for the victim and her family.

"We were sad to hear of this horrible attack—our hearts are with her family and the running community," the organization said.

The attack occurred along a section of the waterfront path overlooking Gravesend Bay, with views of Staten Island and the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, the Post reported.

Police are asking the public for help as the investigation continues.
