Terran Federation- John A Warden class dreadnought battleships
A series of mass-produced capital ships used by tthe Federation Fleet after the 1st Bug War. Commonly seen deployed alongside the smaller Alesia-class Destroyers. Referred to as either a light dreadnought battleship or a battlecruiser. the John A Warden was the Federation's most powerful Dreadnought-type warships of the first two Bug Wars eras prior to the introduction of the larger Izumo-class Super Dreadnoughts.
From its inception, the John A Warden class Battleship was designed to replace the Athena class Armored Cruiser as the front-line warship with heavily armored protection and an assortment of high density laser with missile launchers as its main armaments.
Federation Dreadnought-type warships are categorized in two types, fast and heavily armed but lightly armored Battlecruisers designed to run down smaller ships (Typically called Skin-Eaters) or Line breaker type Battleships with heavy armor and speed but slightly inferior armaments to Citadel Super-Dreadnought types. (Typically called Back-Breakers). The John A Warden is an example of the latter
As of 2662/24 GS, All the current John A Warden class battleships in Federation Fleet have been extensively refitted. Their length have been extended to 777m to accommodate extra mass accelerators and a powerful kinetic barrier generator. The improved John A Warden class is often referred as the perfect representation of a Line-Breaker Battleships, having both powerful shielding and heavy armor, augmenting its performance in frontline assault roles that it has been designed for from the beginning. Althought the type's small dimension and high mobility would still require a compromise in armor protection, which still suffers from base design flaws in its shipbuilding, as its side armor belt is considered fragile for even cruiser level ships.
Terran Federation- Pyotyr Velikiy class fast battleships
First launched in late 2325 AD, the Pyotyr Velikiy (Peter the Great) class was an incremental improvement over the preceding John A Warden class. Due to being based off the highly adaptable John A Warden's frame, its is faster and also more maneuverable than its Skinnie and Turian counterparts.
Work on the Peter the Great class began when Cherenkov shipyards was asked to improve upon the basic John A Warden's frame. They decided to change the main armament from 8 to only 6 guns in an attempt to increase their mobility, with secondary armaments upgraded from conventional 254mm quad laser turrets to the more powerful ultraviolet Auger laser turrets.
As with other 1st gen Terran dreadnoughts, the class were relatively well armored despite their sizes. Once again this was not at the expense of firepower – in fact a significant percentage of the weight of the Terran ships was devoted to their firepower– but came from the use of more powerful machinery and a lighter composite hull construction. On the Pyotyr Velikiy class ships this was achieved by using laminated composite materials for the entire structure rather than a mix of composite armor and high tenstile alloy frame.
Due to the Federation had highly advanced shipyards which were almost fully automated, a massive number of John A Warden type battleships can be built in relatively short time. Civilian experts believed that for every new ships of these class need between 4-6 months although they could be built in shorter time of 2-3 months if needed.
its got the same slab sided overgunned look as a 40k imperium ship without the gothic bits.
