    Hello Complianz team,

I’m having some difficulties with the integration of Google Tag Manager (GTM) on my website and would really appreciate your guidance to ensure I’m fully compliant with cookie regulations (GDPR).

Initially, I inserted the GTM code manually in the theme (using Divi), and I added my GTM ID during the initial Complianz wizard setup. Later, I decided to completely remove the GTM code so Complianz could handle cookie blocking and load GTM only after consent.

The issue is that—even after removing the GTM code, reinstalling the plugin, and restarting the wizard several times—I can’t get the option to enter the GTM ID to show up again, and it seems Complianz isn’t properly blocking the cookies.

Also, I’ve noticed cookies like _ga and _ga_# still appear on my site (according to a Cookiebot test) even when cookies haven’t been accepted. I’m unsure whether these are coming from GTM (even though the code was removed) or from Site Kit, which is installed by another agency just for Analytics.

    Here are my main questions:

    1. How can I re-enter my GTM ID so Complianz can handle it directly?

    2. If I select “Yes, with Google Analytics” during the wizard, will Complianz properly block cookies inserted by the Site Kit plugin, or should I select a different option?

    3. Is it possible those _ga cookies are still being loaded due to leftover GTM scripts or settings?

    4. Does Complianz correctly block Analytics cookies when they come via the Site Kit plugin?

I’m happy to lose some conversion tracking if necessary. My main concern is full legal compliance and ensuring no cookies are installed without consent.

Thank you very much for your help as always.

    Best regards,

    Hello,

    thanks for your message.

If you want to use GTM to embed Analytics in your website the best way to proceed is to embed GTM directly from our plugin sections “Wizard” -> “Consent” -> “Statistics” and “Wizard” -> “Consent” -> “Statistics configuration”.

First of all you’ll need to remove any third-party integrations in your website related to Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, once done that you’ll be able to embed GTM from the sections I pointed out above.

Once done that you’ll need to follow this guide in order to create those custom triggers which will prior block the cookies related to the services embedded from GTM.

In your case if Google Site Kit was just installed to embed Analytics, in order to have a smooth prior blocking process the best way could be to remove it and directly use our plugin, this way the prior blocking will work properly.

    Hi,

Thank you for your reply and the detailed instructions.

I completely uninstalled the Complianz plugin and reinstalled it to try resetting the setup from scratch. I also removed the manual GTM codes that I had previously added through Divi.

The issue is that now Complianz does not show me the option to let the plugin manage Google Tag Manager, nor does it ask me for the GTM container ID, as it did the first time I installed it.

I assume the plugin still has the GTM ID saved in the database, and that’s why it no longer appears. However, I now want Complianz to fully control GTM, and I can’t proceed because I can’t input the ID again.

Could you please tell me how to fully reset that part of the wizard or delete the stored GTM ID, so that I can reconfigure it and allow Complianz to handle it properly?

Thank you very much for your support.

    Hello @oninmedia ,

This issue is likely caused by an integration such as ‘Site Kit’, which is currently enabled on your site, being enabled under Complianz -> Integrations. Disabling it should resolve the issue.

However, please note that if you insert the same GTM/Analytics used in Site Kit, you will likely have a double implementation of those, which could ruin your stats. I suggest implementing Analytics in GTM so you can disable Site Kit and handle everything under Complianz.

    I hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Antonio
