Trans women on HRT have breast cancer risk about equivalent to cis women! Make sure you know this! Keep in mind that this might be difficult to monitor early on HRT, since your breasts will be changing size, shape, and texture rapidly, but be aware of these signs and ask your doctor if you’re unsure!
Typical guidance for transfemmes on feminizing HRT is that you should start getting regular mammograms either at 40-45 or after 5 years of HRT, whichever comes Second. You absolutely can and should start checking yourself before that, but as @catboybiologist said, it may be harder to monitor early on in your transition due to the fact that you’re doing another puberty, so ask your doctor if you’re unsure.
Also, if you have a family history of cancer, especially breast cancer, regardless of your AGAB, see if you can access genetic counseling through your health insurance. Genetic testing can offer some valuable insights, though even if you don’t carry the generic markers, you’re not immune from cancer.
I actually really like Mary Morstan. She’s been through a lot, but she maintains her composure throughout the whole thing. She’s sensible and straight to the point, and Holmes even says THAT SHE WOULD MAKE A GOOD DETECTIVE.
If anything, I think her marriage to Watson is detrimental to HER character far more than his. With most of the other clients, their stories are solved and closed, and we are content knowing that they continued their lives. But as long as she’s Watson’s wife, WE know that she’s there, but she is no longer able to contribute to the story. She is delegated to a faceless woman only there for the plot (and possibly for covering Doyle’s ass).
And after all that we learn about her throughout the story, it’s hard to imagine this practical woman getting engaged to a man she JUST MET. Watson proposing makes perfect sense, he’s a very emotional, passionate and impulsive guy. But I just can’t fathom why she would say yes.
