Sandoz A.G. said it had signed an agreement to buy the agri-chemical sector of the Velsicol Chemical Corporation, a subsidiary of Farley/Northwest Industries, for $200 million. The Sandoz Corporation is the United States subsidiary of the Swiss chemicals and pharmaceuticals group. Among other products, Velsicol's agri-chemical sector develops, produces and markets Banvel R, which Sandoz described as a leading herbicide.
