"Katha (The Tale)"
1982
Directed by Sai Paranjpye
This fairly successful
musical satire was adapted from Paranjpye's play inspired by the tale of
the tortoise and the hare. Rajaram (Naseeruddin Shah) is a slow but
steady, upwardly mobile clerk who is in love with Sandhya (Deepti Naval),
his neighbor, in a lower-middle-class tenement in Bombay. Rajaram's world
is shaken up when the charming Basu (Farouque Shaikh) moves into the
tenement and quickly wins three girlfriends, including Sandhya and
Rajaram's boss' second wife and daughter. Hindi with English subtitles. |
