- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2019I really, really loved her two earlier Berrybrook Middle School stories - Awkward and Brave, but this one just might be my favorite. This one takes a step away from the intrigues of the art club and the school newspaper and focused on Jorge Ruiz, a big kid, a pretty-popular jock who nobody really messes with, who seems to have it all together. Until he realizes that he’s got a massive crush on Jazmine and his world is suddenly tilted. This graphic novel really captures those quick relationship changes in middle school and that dynamic between texts and social media and how that influences and complicates face-to-face interactions. Sometimes novels totally leave out modern technology. I mean, half the time the problem in the book could be solved with a quick Google search or you know - maybe talking with the person that you’re having an issue with! But Chmakova knows that technology might solve some problems but ushers in a whole host of other ones. Crush is another one of those graphic novels that is getting passed from kid to kid to kid in my classroom with a big enough waiting list I ordered a second copy. And - a bonus - kids don’t have to read the three books in the series in order. They each definitely can stand alone.

Svetlana Chmakova creates characters and situations so relatable that I'm on nostalgia mode by chapter 2. It's a great read for people who felt the highs and lows of the inevitable first crush. The only complaint I have is the kindle format. Because the publisher is a manga company the direction is right to left and the story mode is left to right. So you have to pay special attention to what your reading. Other than that it's a great book that never gets overdramatic and is a great read

- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2020First of all, the price was perfect and it was definitely worth
it. I've been a fan of all of Svetlana Chmakova's books for awhile now and I was really disapointed when I came to the end of Crush knowing that it was the end of the series. I love all her books, but Crush is my favorite. I love the drama and how Svetlana Chmakava made it realistic. In many drama books the speech just seems so unnatural. The characters don't say "uh" at all and they don't seem to have trouble finding their words. But in Crush, I felt like I was able to see their mouths moving because the speech was so realistic. I also think that the people were well drawn and looked real. I loved this book!

Sally DReviewed in the United Kingdom on August 4, 20225.0 out of 5 stars Another Fantastic Book!!
Absolutely LOVE Svetlana's middle school graphic novel books, and this is no exception! Complex plot that builds up simply and slowly and keeps your attention (I'm a 28 year old adult and I still really like it!) while getting you invested in the main character. The ending makes your heart race as it's a worst nightmare situation and really realistic. Makes you wonder what you would do in Jorge's situation. Really really super book for 13+!
