The sheer whoosh of the story line keeps you watching anyway, and, as the prince, Jake Gyllenhaal has a hearty good-naturedness that comes as a relief amid all the turbocharged antics. He wears his heroism lightly.

This is a movie that knows exactly how dumb it is.

Bring a joystick to this big budget adventure. It'll give your hands something to do when you're restless.

As usual, the talent in Prince of Persia is generally top notch -- from the cinematographer John Seale to the parkour expert David Belle -- but the ingredients have been masticated so heavily the results are mush.

A spectacularly silly video-game adaptation about a Fresh Prince of Gel Hair who runs around the desert with a magic dagger, a curious version of Alfred Molina and some hoity-toity chick who never breaks a sweat. It's sort of pointless.

Oct 18, 2015Having never played the game I didn't know much about what the plot was about but the games were big hits and popular enough to make a live action movie so I eventually gave it a watch and was very surprised, The story is very loyal to the games from what I seen in the games, Some nice action scenes and good effects, I didn't like the choice of actors but they did ok, As far as game to movies go it's probably one of the better ones, Even if it won't stand the test of time (No pun intended) I think maybe it could of been better if it wasn't made by Disney as they like to tone films down so much that if you're over the age of 11 it's not as enjoyable, But it could of been much worse so I can't complain too much, A good family film that is easy to watch even if you haven't played any of the games.Jamie C Super Reviewer

Dec 02, 2011I hated this film, it has no appeal, or good acting, mostly its just for video game nerds.. After being adopted as a child, Dastan (Jake Gyllenhal) is accused of killing his father the king and must escape and clear his name, and he meets Tamina (Gemma Arterton), a woman she should hate after taking over her kingdom, but they soon grow to like eachother, and using a time machine she posesses called the hourglass, they might be able to fix whats been done. The plot was ridiculous and stupid, it truly tried to hard to be a video game. Jake Gyllenhal did nothing great except talk, no changes from him. Effects were okay, kind of cheesy at points. Overall it sucked, a very disappointing film.Bradley W Super Reviewer

Jul 25, 2011Stop me if you have heard this before, but "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" starts with King Sharaman(Ronald Pickup) receiving intelligence that the holy city of Alamut is stockpiling weapons in aid of a planned revolt. So while the Persian army is planning on attacking via the front door, the king's adopted son Dastan(Jake Gyllenhaal) takes his irregulars through the side door, allowing the city to be taken without much loss of life. But then the king is murdered and Nizam(Ben Kingsley), the king's brother, blames Dastan, causing him to flee with Princess Tamina(Gemma Arterton) and a magic dagger. "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" is a wildly uneven movie that has little idea what it wants to be. On the one hand, this is a broad fantasy that does little to develop its own version of ancient Persia.(Admittedly, the ostrich races are a nice touch and bound to offend some animal rights activist.) By contrast, the movie takes itself too seriously and desperately wants to have something important to say about current events, thus possibly explaining the lack of irony in Jake Gyllenhaal's performance.(Keeping his American accent intact would have helped Dastan stand out as the outsider he is.) Not helping matters is the lack of chemistry he shares with Gemma Arterton which is important if you are going to try and pull off some quality romantic bickering.Walter M Super Reviewer

May 22, 2011Surprisingly good. I have to say, the action sequences are fantastic throughout this film, and even though I don't really like Gyllenhaal, he does a great job here as the prince. I don't know much about the series, so I have no idea how accurate it is, but from an outsider's perspective, it's pretty enjoyable.Stephen S Super Reviewer
