    The next stop on our is Poland. The 10-zlotych and 5-zlotych coins struck at the Royal Mint in 1932 bear the crowned eagle on the obverse and the head of Queen Jadwiga, first queen of Poland, in medieval headdress on the reverse.

    This 5 guinea piece is of spectacular rarity, produced from treasure that was taken from Spanish ships off Vigo in Northern Spain in 1702. So little gold was captured that only about 20 of these coins were struck, identified by the name VIGO below the Queen’s head.

    This is a 5 fen coin from 1945 from the Japanese puppet state of Manchoukuo in northeast China & inner Mongolia. The state existed from 1932 to 1945 with limited international recognition. This coin is made of Magnesite (MgCO₃), a mineral with Iron, manganese, cobalt and nickel.

    The name grosso is a derivative of the French Denarius Grossus (grossus meaning thick). It's the basis for many variations of the name used in different languages, in the East & West, to denote a thick silver coin & later as a general denomination. (Gros Tournois 1285-1290 AD)
