After inheriting the Nova Corps helmet from Rhomann Dey, Richard Rider also adorned the uniform of the Nova Centurions and used his newfound powers to fight evil on Earth. Though he experimented with some variation on the classic look, this was Richard's iconic costume for a majority of his career.

In Point One #1, readers were given a glimpse of what was to come in the MU. After the fall of the Nova Corps during the Thanos Imperative, a new Nova appeared - revealing himself to warn Earth's Mightiest Heroes of the approaching Phoenix Force. Nova #1 - Vol 5 (April 2013) saw the beginning of his journey to becoming a hero when he discovered the Nova helmet in his backyard. Sam has since adapted to the role of Nova, even serving as a member of the New Warriors.
