Become a tiny god in VR with Godling, a beautiful Project Morpheus game

Sony announced a number of new games for the upcoming Project Morpheus virtual reality hardware, and one of the titles is Godling. You take the role of a "toddler god" — or "goddler," if you will — in a sort of sandbox where you decide how to use your powers. Here's a very brief trailer to give you a sense of the game. You can also, it seems, be a violent, vengeful god. "It certainly has sandbox elements, but conversely progression, how you play through the game, has some understandable and straightforward linear experiences," Sólfar's Thor Gunnarsson told Polygon. "If you think about great titles like Zelda, where you solve certain puzzles or challenges, often out of order in any given level and progress from there? That’s probably the closest analogy to what we’re trying to do...

Destiny is expanding with The Taken King, here's how the game will be shaken up

A new eight-minute video released today by Bungie details what to expect in The Taken King, the upcoming expansion to Destiny. You're promised new loot, puzzles to find and solve, and hopefully a few surprises. The enemies you'll fight in the upcoming expansion of Destiny burn from within. They'll test you in new ways. They have a sort of jitter, as if they're fighting what's happening to them. It's a disturbing enemy, and the content is designed to give the player a new sense of urgency and desperation. You'll fight in a castle in the sky to battle Oryx, the father of Crota. There are three more sub-classes, and new powers to unlock in order to fight this new threat. There are new weapons. Expect some heavy changes to the meta game, new strikes and a new raid. The Taken King will...

Just Cause 3 goes nuts in Mediterranean; massive damage

Just Cause 3 has moments when all seems serene and beautiful, when it soars above sparkling seas with the wind in its hair. And then it floats gently towards the earth and turns into an absolute headcase. Like a ferocious animal in a tin box, Just Cause 3 bangs with all manner of violence. There's a part of you that wants to leave the beast well alone, but you know, sooner or later, you're going to unlatch the box and step well back. What sets it apart from all those other deathly open-world maim-and-kill fantasies is that the whole spectacle is handled with a deft touch of humor and self-mockery. This is not a game that takes itself seriously at all. It asks that you enjoy the slapstick of breaking things and people. Such a notion may seem contradictory, but there is a kinetic energy...

Nintendo and Platinum Games are working together on Star Fox Zero

Nintendo is collaborating with Platinum Games to create the next Star Fox game for Wii U, game designer Shigeru Miyamoto announced at a press event earlier this week.Star Fox Zero, due this launch this holiday for Wii U, is not a sequel and not a remake, Miyamoto said, explaining that Nintendo and Platinum "built the game using the ideas of the past." The new Star Fox brings back characters and vehicles from previous games in the franchise, including the Arwing and a bird-like Walker ship that originally appeared in canceled Super Nintendo game Star Fox 2. Fox and his squadron — Falco, Peppy and Slippy — will embark on a new story, battling familiar foes and former allies in the sci-fi action game. The world of Star Fox Zero is loosely based on Star Fox 64, originally released in...

The new Hitman begins Dec. 8 with a digital release

IO Interactive's new Hitman commences with a digital release on Dec. 8, introducing players to a a "live and ever expanding world of digital assassinations," the developer said at Square Enix's E3 presentation. The game will launch on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. IO will roll out a schedule of missions, hits and other objectives for the Hitman community at the launch and thereafter. Christian Elverdam, the creative director for Hitman, described a scenario in which all players will be given a shot at an objective, with the outcome permanently recorded. "Every NPC has a name," he said. The nature of the new mode makes the new Hitman into a sandbox game, he said. "It is up to you to use brute force, or orchestrate a genuine masterpiece of assassination," he said. The new game...

Here's one way amiibo will work in Super Mario Maker

Nintendo's Mario-themed level editor, Super Mario Maker, is bringing amiibo into the fold in simple, yet pretty adorable way. When you tap in a figure, you'll be able to play as that character in certain levels — with a few exceptions and rules, of course. To understand how this all works, we first need to talk about power-ups in the Mario universe. Super Mario 3, for example, has the super leaf, which turns you into a flying raccoon, while New Super Mario Bros. U has the propeller mushroom. Super Mario Maker — which incorporates themes from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U — allows you to craft your own levels using special power-ups from each of these games. Amiibo will come into play specifically for the 8-bit theme of Super...

Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer is decorating for dummies

When it comes to style, I've never been especially savvy. You can apply that to my clothing, my decorating sense, you name it — for a long time, my idea of a "nice setup" has been any piece of Ikea furniture that costs more than $50 and actually owning curtains. When you sit me down to play a game about decorating homes, maybe you can understand why I'd have reservations. The game in question is Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. It's a spinoff of Nintendo's Animal Crossing series, but instead of paying debts or burying shells in your neighbor's yard, you design homes. We're not exactly talking from the ground up, as you might in a series like The Sims, but there's a lot of customization that comes into play. During a hands-on demo of the game, I got to pick the basic frame of the...
