Newly released small area population and household estimates from 2011 Census show that Sovereign and Devonshire wards in Eastbourne and Central St Leonards ward in Hastings saw the highest levels of population growth in the county since 2001: See latest briefing

Population growth has led to the creation of a new 2011 Census geography with changes mostly affecting Eastbourne: See datanote

The next release of 2011 Census results is planned for the end of 2012/early 2013 when data giving more detailed charateristics of the population and for smaller geographic areas will become available.

Interim policy-based population projections have been created for East Sussex, reflecting the first results from 2011 Census. These figures estimate that the county's population could grow to just under 535,000 by 2026: See latest data
