Conan O'Brien Adds Acting to His Sizzling Summer Sked

As Conan O'Brien promos his well-reviewed Can't Stop doc (and bathes in the glow of his widely viewed Dartmouth commencement address), the funny cable talk show host is set to add acting to his resume. Well, not exactly. He's going to play a lowly extra on comedy TV series How I Met Your Mother. Why? He won the walk-on role at a charity event. Rather than perform a showy celebrity cameo, O’Brien, who is 6' 4" says: “I think it's much funnier if I'm just in the bar, in the background." »

They came to laugh, cry, and remember the good times. Family and close friends of Ryan Dunn gathered for a private memorial service at a West Chester, Penn., funeral home Wednesday to bid goodbye to the Jackass daredevil, who died tragically two days earlier in a fiery car crash that also killed his passenger, Zachary Hartwell. Among those in attendance were several of his Jackass costars. Bam Margera, who called Dunn his best friend, came with his wife, Melissa, and Johnny Knoxville took the podium to offer up recollections of his fellow prankster over the years. So You Think You Can Dance Top 20 Redux Results: Did the Right People Go Home?

Any which way you slice it, this week’s So You Think You Can Dance results show was a trying one. Four of the Top 20 dancers — or 20 percent of the field — felt the cold grip of elimination icily massage their necks, and when it was all said and done, two early favorites, a World Champion, and one of Nigel’s certified lady beasts had fallen by the wayside.
But looking on the bright side, perhaps America’s loss will be Debbie Reynolds’ gain. Indeed, on Wednesday night’s performance show, the screen legend and bawdy guest judge jokingly offered to »

'Suits' - 'Pilot': Harvard, man

Okay, I offered my take on USA's "Suits" in yesterday's review. Now it's your turn. What did everybody think of the legal drama, the fine quality tailoring, etc? Not planning to make this part of the review rotation, as you might imagine, especially since I liked next week's episode even less than the pilot. But if things get more interesting later on, I might check back in. »

'Louie' - 'Pregnant': Who are the people in your neighborhood?

I gave my overall thoughts on the start of "Louie" season 2 in a review I posted earlier this week. In future weeks, I imagine I'm going to have a lot more to say about specific episodes, but I'll keep my season premiere thoughts brief, coming up just as soon as we sit and play the card game where nobody loses... First things first: "Pregnant" is a very simple, fairly serious episode - albeit one that's all a long wind-up to a very gross, funny, juvenile fart joke. Louie frets a bit about handling both his girls, his pregnant sister Gretchen »

I gave my thoughts on FX's strange, funny new buddy comedy "Wilfred" in today's review. Now it's your turn. What did everybody think of Elijah Wood being suicidally depressed, Jason Gann as an Aussie man/dog hybrid, and all the rest? Is Fiona Gubelmann, as Dan suggests, the greatest name in human history? And for those of you familiar with the Australian original (also starring Gann as Wilfred), how would you compare the tones and effectiveness of the two series? Still pondering how much I have to write about the series going forward, but I imagine I'll at least do brief posts on the next two episodes, which »

So You Think You Can Dance: Four Contestants Thought They Could but Got the Boot

Last night on So You Think You Can Dance, we watched as 10 couples boogied their hearts away for a chance to stay in the competition. But tonight, that dream ended for some. Four contestants were sent home—can you guess who? After a group performance with all 20 contestants, host Cat Deely attempted to dance her pretty booty onstage and explained that the experts (and judges) Mary Murphy, Nigel Lythgoe and Debbie Reynolds have their work cut out for them tonight. The bottom three couples based on last night's performances were: Missy Morelli and Wadi Jones, Iveta Lukosiute and Nick Young, and Ryan Ramirez and Ricky Jaime. Then each individual had to give a solo "dance »

Box office preview: 'Cars 2' to lap its competition

It could be a somewhat bittersweet weekend for Pixar. While the animation studio is assured to score its 12th consecutive No. 1 opening with Cars 2, the automotive sequel may fail to match its 2006 predecessor. Perhaps more concerning for Pixar, though, is that Cars 2 seems poised to become the studio’s first critical misfire — more on that below. Also debuting this weekend is the Cameron Diaz comedy Bad Teacher, which is aiming to duplicate the success of another actress-driven R-rated comedy: Bridesmaids. Here are my box-office predictions for the top five:
1. Cars 2: $59 million

'Burn Notice' - 'Company Man': Back in from the cold?

"Burn Notice" is back for its fifth season, and I have a review of the premiere coming up just as soon as I have some tactical goals and a rough approach... After being disenchanted with most of "Burn Notice" season 4, I thought the finale was terrific in its own right, but also in the way it set things up for this season: Michael now has the list of people who burned him, and he's back in the CIA's good graces, and where do we go from here? I had no idea exactly what the new status quo would be, and »

For more than a decade, Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott was one of the leading ladies of hip-hop. But in the last three years, Elliott, 39, had been absent from the spotlight.
