Jud McCranie web page

Modified December 24, 2007

Hello, below are some Windows® programs I've written that can be downloaded, and links to some things in which I'm involved.  Some programs have an installation/setup program.  The programs are copyrighted but are free for non-commercial use (i.e. freeware).

Quick links to other pages on my website:

Click here for downloads of freeware programs and some data files (Updated December 23, 2007)

Click here for chess endgame book bibliography and recommendations (Updated December 24, 2007)

Click here for a brief demo of the AutoSchedule program, which is for the weekly scheduling and vacation management of shift workers. (Updated July 19, 2006)

Some things in which I'm involved, or have been involved:

Wikipedia - the free encyclopedia  I've done a lot of editing of it.

OEIS – the Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences This is big database of sequences of integers, and I've worked on dozens of the sequences.

Prime Curios These are curiosities about prime numbers, and I've submitted a few.  There is to be a book as soon as the first 10,000,000-digit prime is discovered.

Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search This is a project to search for large Mersenne prime numbers.  I've been a member since 1998 and I've tested over two-hundred numbers (all were found to be composite) and I've found a factor of more than twenty of them.  I have six CPUs working on this.

Prime Puzzles These are mathematical puzzles involving prime numbers.  I used to be active there.

Golden Isles Scholastic Chess This is our organization for local scholastic chess tournaments.  My daughter plays in the tournaments and I coach her team.  I get the trophies for the tournament and do a few other things to help out.

Southeast Coastal Georgia Computer Club This is our local computer club, but I haven't been there much lately.

The prime pages - large prime numbers At one time I had discovered nearly 100 primes on the list of the 5,000 largest known prime numbers, and once had one in the top forty (number thirty-five).  Now I have only two in the top 5,000 and none in the top 1,000.  Such is progress!  I have one CPU working on this.  My page there.  My old autobiographical data there (out of date)

Things I usually look at daily:

Astronomy Picture of the Day This page is changed daily and has some amazing photographs.

Susan Polgar chess blog
This is a blog by chess grandmaster Susan Polgar, mostly about chess.

Other good resourses:

Mathworld A great website for mathematics information.
