SITE STAFF
Steven Awalt, Editor, Lead Writer
The site is written and maintained by Steven Awalt, a die-hard Spielberg addict since the late 1970s. "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" is the one that sent him over the edge of mania, and after "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial," there was no going back. Steven studied film at Columbia College, Chicago, and holds a degree in Communication from the University of St. Francis. He spends his days working on this site and listening to John Williams scores. He will viciously fight to the grave to prove that "Poltergeist" is indeed an important film in Spielberg's filmography, if not as director (uncredited) then thematically. SpielbergFilms.com is his unhealthy obsession.

Richard Dennis, Contributing Writer
Richard Dennis has also been an avid Spielberg fan since he first saw "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" in a cramped movie theater in Dallas, TX in the late 70s. The release of "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial," and "Poltergeist" several years later only cemented the fact that Mr. Spielberg was going to play a huge part in his life, both personally and professionally. Richard attended the University of Texas at Arlington where he learned to appreciate film, directing, and most importantly screenwriting, from UTA Chair Andy Anderson (director of the cult classic "Positive I.D."). Richard’s love of all things Spielberg continues even stronger today than it did ten years ago. From "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" to "Schindler's List,", Mr. Spielberg’s body of work continues to inspire him on an everyday basis. Richard currently lives in Lewisville, TX with his wife Jodi and two year old daughter, Maya.

James Clarke, Contributing Writer
James has been a major Steven Spielberg fan since the early 1980s and the enthusiasm remains. In 2001, James had his first book published, The Pocket Essentials: Steven Spielberg. James is also the writer of The Pocket Essentials: George Lucas and also The Virgin Film Guide: Ridley Scott, The Virgin Film Guide: Coppola, The Virgin Film Guide: Animated Films and The Virgin Film Guide: War Films. James has also written for Hotdog and Empire movie magazines and is currently developing a number of new book concepts and screenplay ideas. Please feel free to contact him on james.clarke01@btinternet.com

Jocelyn Briggs, Contributing Writer
Jocelyn Briggs had his first cinematic experience at the tender age of three when he was taken to a screening of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," a film whose imagery went on to inhabit his dreams and nightmares for years to come. Further obsessions with films such as "Jaws" and "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" followed and he has enthusiastically followed Spielberg's work ever since, with recent masterpieces "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" and "Minority Report" taking his interest in the film-maker to new levels. Jocelyn currently lives in Barnes, South-West London and enjoys writing in his spare time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-Can you give me Steven Spielberg's email, telephone number or address?

I do not have any personal contact with Steven Spielberg, Amblin, DreamWorks, etc., as this is a fan site, plain and simple. If you want to send mail to Steven Spielberg, send it c/o DreamWorks SKG, 1000 Flower Street, Glendale, CA 91201.

-I have a great idea for a film? Can you forward it on to Mr. Spielberg?
Again, refer to the above answer. If you plan to send your ideas, work, etc. to Steven Spielberg, be advised that the movie industry as a whole does not accept unsolicited material, and sending it is ultimately a waste of your time, money and hopes. The only real way to submit material that could be considered to any studio is to go through an agent.

-What is the value of [insert collectible]?

Grading collectibles is a very odd business, as the only way a value can be put upon a piece of movie memorabilia is to watch demands/selling trends. I cannot honestly answer Spielberg merchandise values with scientific accuracy, as there aren't any known sources for me to consult for statistics.

Consider a few points if you are hoping to buy/sell Spielberg collectibles though: Mass market items such as comics, figures, books, trading cards, etc. that had a saturation push aren't generally that hard to come by if you know where to look (in this day and age, it's even easier with eBay.com, amazon.com, allposters.com, alibris.com, nostalgia.com, etc.). For fans just starting out collecting, gathering, many great Spielberg collectibles is easier than ever, and can be an affordable hobby as well.

On the other hand, rare items like original one-sheets and marketing paraphernalia not produced for the consumer market can gain great value. A great place to see average values of movie posters online is posterprice.com. This site tracks current sales of particular movie posters and makes averages based on sales to compile it's statistics.

Finally, when you see that Spielberg merchandise you're just dying to have, the best way to know its estimate value is to watch the markets and see how often an item shows up and for what asking price. Don't let a dealer talk you into something that doesn't seem right--the ultimate value for a Spielberg collectible should be how much the memorabilia really means to you personally.

-Can you send me research material?

As much as I like to help fellow fans out as often as possible, my personal life and time I need to devote to writing for the site makes it impossible to keep up in-depth correspondence or send in-depth material. The best place to get info on Steven Spielberg, in all immodesty, would be the pages of this site or in the volumes of books written about Spielberg and his work.

-Can I use images from your site on my site?
As a fansite, I do not own any of the photographs and stills from the films discussed on this site, and as such, I won't lay claim to any of them and complain if people download them. The only consideration I do demand is that any graphics work I have created exclusively for my site are not used in any other form. If you plan on making your own fansite, you'll find it's a lot of hard work and you would want the same respect from others.

Also, do not link images directly from our image gallery to appear on other sites. This is bandwidth theft and is unethical and illegal. When you do this, you're stealing from us personally.

-How can I help the site?

As with all Internet sites, everything runs on information. The best thing anyone can do for this site is help supply me with information on news, etc. for the films. I spend a lot of time doing research for the site, including day-to-day news gathering to keep the current news up-to-date. Readers who send in scoops or news tips are an invaluable help to me in making the site the most complete Steven Spielberg site online. If you have any Steven Spielberg news I've missed, please write me to help share the info with fans. All I ask is that the tips are credible (with sources) and of interest to fans regarding the films covered on the site. All sources and news providers are always credited for helping.

Likewise, please do not post breaking news in the Forum. This is not an ego thing, as again, I give full credit for news tips. I work hard on the site and there's nothing worse than being scooped in my own forum.

If you enjoy the site, spread the word! I work hard on the site and am very proud of it, and I'd like as many fans like myself to enjoy it as well. Word of mouth is the best advertising anyone could ask for and I really do appreciate it.

Finally, constructive feedback is always welcome too. The site still has a ways to go, and I do have many things planned that won't be implemented for a while, but I'm always looking for ways to improve things and make SpielbergFilms.com a more enjoyable website for all fans.
