Indian Express Publications

When the Indian Express Publications site went live on the Internet on July 8, 1996, it was with trepidation and excitement. It was its first venture on a global medium, even though it had tasted the power of this medium when it presented Indian election news during May and June, 1996.

Our anxieties made us strive harder, and our excitement made us bolder. We were encouraged by the overwhelming response of our readers, who spurred us on with their words of warmth and advice. Each suggestion we managed to incorporate on our site, was matched with several other innovative suggestions.

If our Internet site is what it is today, it is because our readers have helped us become better. We thank you for that. That is why when stalwarts on the Internet scene like

sent us their compliments, they reminded us of the need to remain responsive and humble. We thank them for their kind words, and hope that we will continue to excel, and meet the aspirations of our ever growing audience.

Today, with our site accounting for as many as 700,000 hits every day, excepting weekends when it falls to 60% of its normal levels, we see the need for innovation far more keenly than before.

Earlier, there were only one sixth this number of requests for information. Today, the numbers comprising our audience are much larger. But so are their expectations. And the last thing we would want to do is to disappoint any of them.

Nevertheless, we give below the names of the stalwarts who have sent us their words of encouragement. We do so out of deference to our readers. We do so also to thank the managers and editors of the services which have chosen to rate us as one of the best sites on the Internet.
