Then you need to catch new Channel 4 documentary Crime Scene Cleaners, which follows professional biohazard cleaners attending crime scenes after forensic evidence has been taken 👍 The series features Andrew Langley, a senior lecturer in forensic science at University of Kent who has has more than 35 years of experience in crime scene examination. Crime Scene Cleaners shows crime scene clean-up processes through the body-cams worn by cleaners, while discussing the forensic science behind it and the necessary precautions for those cleaning. Andrew provided his expertise and analysed the crime scenes in the series, giving his opinion on what he interpreted might have happened in the scenes and explained how he came to the conclusions that he did. They are commissioned by the UK Health Security Agency and provide a 24 hour, 365 days a year clinical toxicology advice service to help healthcare workers in their diagnosis and management of poisoned patients, including those exposed in chemical incidents. They also maintain TOXBASE®, the UK’s primary clinical toxicology database. The multi-disciplinary team are based at City Health Campus and is made up of specialists in poisons information and clinical toxicologists, who work together to provide a seamless frontline emergency service that handles over 40,000 calls per year. #PeopleofSWB

These civilian professionals work alongside detectives, supporting investigations without arrest powers or a warrant card. Many forces are expanding these teams to increase investigative capacity, making this a strong entry point for anyone interested in law, justice and public service. 🚨𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿?  Police staff (or detective staff) investigators are civilian employees embedded in investigative units such as 𝘊𝘐𝘋, 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘤𝘺𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘦 and 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘥. Most roles require PIP1 or PIP2 accreditation, covering evidence handling, case management and relevant legislation. Vetting is essential due to access to sensitive information, typically NPPV Level 2 or 3. 🚨𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿? These roles offer a meaningful way to support criminal investigations and make a real impact on public safety without becoming a sworn officer. They also provide clear routes for development and progression into more advanced investigative work.
