  • What happens when Bitcoin mining infrastructure meets soaring demand for AI? BBC News has reported that a growing number of major Bitcoin mining businesses are expanding into AI and high-performance computing, putting existing access to power, land and large-scale infrastructure to new use. For Alex Hayes, Executive Director, Critical Infrastructure at LVI Associates, the shift also raises an important question around the specialist talent needed to turn that infrastructure into operational AI capacity: “Long-term data center and AI contracts can offer more predictable revenues. For operators that already control power and suitable sites, that stability can be extremely attractive from a balance sheet and investment perspective. “Converting that capacity is only part of the challenge, though. AI infrastructure needs experienced engineers, construction leaders, commissioning specialists and critical infrastructure professionals to get projects operational. “As more capital moves into AI infrastructure, competition for these skill sets will grow. For businesses investing in AI infrastructure, access to the right people is becoming as important as access to power and land.” We explore what the shift from Bitcoin mining to AI could mean for data center infrastructure and talent in our latest LVI Associates article here: https://hubs.la/Q04vG_0X0 Read the BBC story: https://lnkd.in/egixcRmy #DataCenters #AIInfrastructure #CriticalInfrastructure #Bitcoin #HPC

  • Following last year’s widespread power outage across Spain and Portugal, businesses are investing heavily in battery storage to strengthen their resilience against future disruption. As reported by BBC News, battery storage capacity in Spain has risen almost sevenfold since the April 2025 blackout, with further investment planned across the region. Commenting on what this means for the energy market, Harry Morgan, Vice President at LVI Associates, said: “The growth in battery storage across Spain and Portugal shows how quickly energy resilience has moved up the agenda for businesses. The blackout last year exposed the cost of relying on the grid without sufficient backup, particularly for energy-intensive industries where even a short interruption can stop production. “What we’re seeing now is businesses investing in storage not only as protection against disruption, but as a bigger part of how they manage and use energy. “That investment brings another challenge, because developing, installing and operating battery storage at this scale requires experienced engineering, project delivery and technical professionals, many of whom are already in high demand across Europe’s energy market. “As storage capacity grows, having the people who can turn that investment into operational infrastructure will become increasingly important.” LVI Associates works with businesses and professionals across renewable energy and energy storage markets globally.
