KANPUR: GRP arrested a youth performing a reckless act seeking Instagram popularity in Unnao. Ranjit Chaurasia, aged 22, recorded himself positioned on railway tracks while the Vande Bharat train passed overhead, subsequently sharing the content on social media.
Following the video's widespread circulation, the GRP arrested him after registering a case and sent him to jail.
The act of Ranjit, who resides in Dayanand Nagar, Nyotani, Hasanganj, Unnao, left people stunned. In pursuit of social media engagement, he produced hazardous content.
He positioned himself on the railway tracks near Kusumbhi station along the Kanpur-Lucknow route, documenting the Vande Bharat train passing above. The GRP arrested him after the footage circulated widely. His father contends that the video underwent editing and his son never actually lay on the tracks.
The incident occurred during a local fair. According to GRP officer Arvind Pandey, Ranjit, employed at an online shopping company's warehouse in Sohramau, also maintains a YouTube presence.
On April 3, while attending a fair in Kusumbhi, Ajgain, he recorded himself between the tracks as the Vande Bharat train passed overhead. The content, shared on his Instagram account, achieved widespread circulation by Monday across various social platforms.
Following the video's discovery, the police conducted enquiries and brought Ranjit to the police station on Sunday evening. He acknowledged creating the footage during questioning. Discussions suggest possible video manipulation prior to posting.
GRP officer Pandey said that forensic examination of the mobile device would reveal whether editing occurred. Ranjit's father, Sukuru, maintains his son's three-year history of creating and editing Instagram content, asserting the railway footage was edited.
