Hi, Tumblr crew:
I’m less present here nowadays, as I’ve realised I only have the concentration and willpower for one social media platform. I’m intending to answer a small number of questions after A Day of Fallen Night comes out, then permanently close my inbox.
Most of my past answers will be left up for now, so you can browse through at your leisure. I’ve answered hundreds over the years and I hope you enjoy reading them.
If you’d like to keep up with what I’m doing and working on, you can follow me on Instagram. Thank you for being such a wonderful community since I joined Tumblr.
Love,
Sam

Bestie badasses Paige and Maria who have some incredible girl talk and adventure time in this book. After a whole book apart, I absolutely loved them back together!!
wanted to post the finished product for the Dark Mirror release but the current date and the state of this WIP explains why that didn’t happen.
Anyways, happy belated release to the newest novel of my favourite series
“Whatever part of my existence you have touched,” Arcturus said, “is the best of me, Paige Mahoney.” ♥️

In 2025, witness the fall of the Kingdom of Yscalin.
🥀
Among the Burning Flowers, a short prequel to The Priory of the Orange Tree, is publishing in hardback, ebook and audiobook in September 2025.
Told by three characters – Marosa Vetalda, Estina Melaugo, and Aubrecht Lievelyn – it will not only feature another stunning cover from Ivan Belikov, but also beautiful interior illustrations from Rovina Cai. You can pre-order it here.
🥀
Yscalin, land of sunshine and lavender, will soon be ablaze.
It has been centuries since the Draconic Army took wing, almost extinguishing humankind.
Marosa Vetalda is a prisoner in her own home, controlled by her cold father, King Sigoso. Over the mountains, her betrothed, Aubrecht Lievelyn, rules Mentendon in all but name. Together, they intend to usher in a better world.
A better world seems impossibly distant to Estina Melaugo, who hunts the Draconic beasts that have slept across the world for centuries.
And now the great wyrm Fýredel is stirring, and Yscalin will be the first to fall …
Hi, Tumblr:
The Dark Mirror, the fifth book in the Bone Season series, is coming on 25 February 2025. If you pre-order from the US, the UK or Canada before that date, you can claim a gorgeous 6x9" print by artist Erica Chan.
All retailers are eligible, including special editions. All you have to do is upload your receipt here.
I had a clear vision of this art in my head, and Erica captured it so beautifully. Some details …
• Paige is holding white aster, the flower of forgetting
• Her necklace is inspired by the Petelia Gold Tablet
• She’s in free-world gear while Jaxon is still dressed like he’s in the middle of London, naturally
• We went back and forth multiple times to ensure Jaxon had precisely the right amount of smirk
• Most importantly, Paige hair colour reveal – she’s gone dark blonde for this instalment.
“’There,’ I said. ‘The world didn’t end.’ His gaze moved from our hands to my face. ‘I never thought it would.’”
Ever since I read The Bone Season in June I’ve had a reoccurring vision for an art piece for the chapter “Amaranth” and a few months ago I finally said enough is enough and commissioned Anna @mossillustra to do a Guildhall centered piece.
Anyway I’m forever screaming about this so if you could commission Anna to do any and all art things that would be great!
And read The Bone Season too💕
Day 14 - Forbidden Love
(I’ve wanted to draw the Candle Dance since I read it, here it is finally)
(Sabran and Ead from The Priory of The Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon)
“I can offer you nothing,” he said. “Only a song in the shadows.”
“Sing it to me,” I whispered back.
‘The night we met, I saw your face and knew that you could be the end of me. This night, I fear the same.’

I’m beyond delighted to reveal the cover of The Dark Mirror, the fifth book in the Bone Season series, designed by Carmen R. Balit and illustrated by Ivan Belikov, with art direction by David Mann.
I couldn’t love this cover more – it fits perfectly alongside the other books while also having a fresh, nocturnal palette for this brand-new instalment of the series. I can’t even imagine how gorgeous it’s going to look when it’s foiled. Endless thanks to Ivan, as always, for his exquisite illustrations.
The Dark Mirror will be published in hardback, ebook and audio format on 25 February 2025. Signed copies are available to pre-order now from Waterstones and Barnes & Noble; more special editions to be announced.

A portrait of the immortal humanoid Arcturus Mesarthim (aka Warden) surrounded by words and quotes from the book. He is the best. 🥰
Hello, Tumblr:
Just popping in, after a long absence, to tell you about the pre-order campaign for my Author’s Preferred Text editions of the Bone Season series.
As you may know if you’ve followed me for a while, I wrote my debut novel, The Bone Season, when I was nineteen and still at university. For its tenth anniversary last year, I decided to re-approach the book with ten years’ more writing experience under my belt, and have since revised the whole series to bring it in line with the first. Bloomsbury has given the revised series a beautiful new look, with jackets illustrated by Ivan Belikov, the artist behind The Priory of the Orange Tree and A Day of Fallen Night.
The first book is available in hardback now, and the other three are coming in May, in either hardback or paperback. The audiobooks will also be revised, with narration by Alana Kerr Collins. You can pre-order them here.
If you’re pre-ordering from the US, the UK or Canada, you can claim a beautiful art print of Paige and Warden by artist Erica Chan. Details here.
I hope you enjoy the revisions as much as I’ve enjoyed working on them.
