🌟 Tools: Cotton balls, jar, water, food coloring, glitter.

Heres a simple how to on how I made this:
⭐️ Mix food coloring with water, any combo you want, in separate containers.
⭐️Pour a little bit of the mixture into a jar. Then stuff cotton balls in the jar, leaving some space for more.
⭐️ Add a bit of glitter and use a stick you don’t mind getting dirty to mix/move the glitter around.
⭐️ Pour a bit of water. (opt.)
⭐️Add a bit more cotton balls/shred pieces of cotton balls (opt.)
⭐️ Pour the next colored mixture and repeat the steps and then done!!

Cool idea, but a jar full of wet cotton balls seems like a recipe for mold. Maybe you could use alcohol instead.

The tutorial text:

You need 10 yards of 54” wide tutu tulle fabric; two yards of 2” wide grosgrain ribbon (to match the tulle or not, up to you); strong thread; needle or sewing machine.

At the very top of one of the long sides of the tulle, sew a row of running stitches, each about ½” long and ½” away from the next. Don’t tie a knot on either end; you want like a foot of thread hanging off each side of the tulle. Now make an identical row of stitches ¼” below the first row.

Wrap the tulle around yourself, the rows of stitches at your waist, and pull the threads to gather in the waistband of the skirt till it fits your waist. Good. Now tie the ends of the hanging threads into ball-y knots (don’t tie them to each other; you’re not closing the skirt) so they won’t slip back into the tulle

Pin the ribbon over your line of stitches, leaving equal amounts hanging off the edges of the tulle. Sew the edge of the ribbon onto the outer edge of the tulle

Tie that ribbon into a bow around your waist and hem the tulle by cutting it to your desired length. You could make the ends jagged for a Siouxsie Sioux look or cut it Maddona-esquely short, as in Who’s That Girl?. You are a genius, a little Degas.

NOTES FROM AUNTIE JILLI:

Go wild and add as many tulle layers as your heart desires! When I made this skirt, I ended up using something like 30 yards of tulle for 3 layers. I just checked, and tulle runs about $1.50 a yard at JoAnn Fabrics.

Remember, this is a see-through skirt! Leggings, shorts, bloomers, a slip – some sort of under layer is recommended. ::grin::

I moved my library around…sort of. The shelves were way too heavy to move so I swapped the drawers and clock around with the chairs. Now i have a chair directly across from my books so i can just sit and stare at them all day.

Cleaning and preparing feathers Ever find yourself staring at a roadside casualty bird or creepily staring at the poor feathered gift your cat left on the door step… thinking of how you can salvage the beautiful feathers? Go no further… here are some tricks to sanitize, clean and restore bird feathers.

- Freezing feathers is a great way to kill off any bacteria and mites that may be crawling among the quills and feather down. Just put the feathers in a zip lock bag or Tupperware and freeze for a handful of days.

- boiling water
Soaking the quill tips in boiling water helps loosen and clean out any strange dirt/goop that may be inside or dried to the base of the feather

- Alcohol
soaking the quills in alcohol helps with cleaning and sanitizing. You can also put some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and spritz the feathers a few times to further sanitize and clean. Its best to lay the feathers on a paper towel ( or absorbent surface) and spray them a couple times… let dry, flip them over, spray the back side and repeat a few times until you feel the feather is sanitized.

If your feathers get ruffled or brushed the wrong way, there are a few strange tricks I’ve learned to help restore them.

- Blow dryer…. Blow drying works great for restoring a feathers natural fluff as silly as it may sound. It is also really helpful to quickly dry and shape feathers that have gotten wet or damp.

- Iron
You can place your feathers between 2 layers of towel and iron them, it helps them dry straight.
* along with ironing your feathers you can also use a hair straightener. Just keep in mind not to let the hot plates/iron sit on the feather too long, you do not want to singe or burn anything <3

- Steaming

This is a bit of a different way, but it works just as well as the rest.

All you need is a tea kettle. Bring your kettle to a boil so steam is flowing from the /opening…. hold your ruffled feather within the steam for a few seconds making sure steam reaches all ruffled areas. Take your fingers and gently pull from the stem outward with the grain of the feather, this should help reconnect the veins.

( be careful not to burn your fingers)

There are other methods of feather sanitizing and straightening, these are only the few i know of or have personally utilized.
