Hi, my name is Luke
I make bad posts, and I didn't update my header for a year and a half. idk if this is a mark of shame or pride, but my username hasn't changed since 2012, and neither has my picture.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

one of the guys in the kitchen at work got called irritating and replied “I am not irritating. You just find me irritating. There are many people who love me.” I think we should all adopt his attitude

unavoidable that you will be the villain in someone else’s story. You will be painted in an unfavorable light. You will be the irredeemable one. and all of this will happen despite how nice you might usually be or how kind or how respectful or how warm. and you will just have to move on.

    image

For some people, all that’s required for being the villain in their story is that you don’t let them walk all over you.

While that’s true, I do think it’s also important to remember that sometimes you’re someone else’s villain because you fucked up. You were inattentive or inconsiderate, you didn’t try hard enough or you tried to hard, you said and did things that were not kind or respectful or warm. And no matter how much you grow from that period of your life, no matter how hard you try to make amends, that person may simply not be interested in forgiving you. And it’s okay at that point to shrug and say “okay, I’m sorry we couldn’t fix this, I hope your life is better without me in it,” and then walk away.

When my brothers were younger I wanted to teach about misogynistic tropes in media without scaring them off by presenting the topic right out the gate as serious and aggressive and intimidating so I pointed out one day that movie dudes usually only ever have three motives- 1. Wife, 2. Daughter, 3. Dog.

And now whenever we watch a movie together and a dude character is about to reveal their angst backstory we take guesses if it’s gonna be 1, 2, or 3.

Which is specifically the most fun to do in bad B-list action movies because you can say “It’s a 1” as it starts and then ten minutes later the ham-fisted Macho Man Tough Guy quietly mentions being married once and you can put your hands in the air and go “AYYY IT WAS 1” like your team just scored a sportsball goal

Truthfully though I think we need more 3’s

4’s and 5’s, even. Maybe even some 6’s

Jesse, you’re forgetting that Dragons are not just beasts, they are inherently magical and they are of the element they embody, Jesse. An ancient white dragon would create an icy tundra wherever it built its lair merely by existing in that place over time. It is the surrounding animals that have adapted to the cold to even exist in the landscape of a dragon, Jesse.

Also dragons have teeth, Jesse. I don’t think ice resistance is gonna be that big of an issue. The prey isn’t teeth resistant, Jesse.
