I’m an electrical engineer and for the longest time I was saying that electricity and electronics isn’t magic, but think about it.
You literally have to collect rare stones from remote locations, put them into specific formations to work. All of this gets written down in symbols which don’t make sense to the uninformed. It gets powered by energy which can not be seen in most cases.
Like what else do you want. What’s your standard for calling something magic.
“It doesn’t stop being magic just because you know how it works.”

Me 5 seconds after my corpo mandated password change: Hey did you know mandated periodic password changes aren’t considered good cybersecurity practice and in fact actually weaken password security? Just a funny little fact I thought you should know.
“ISO 27001 requires it, so our hands are tied”
It’s actually ISO 27002 that had these guidelines and they removed them in 2022

what if you told someone you liked their shoelaces while you were on your knees blowing them in a bathroom stall and they told you that they stole them from the president

how i’m handling my students using AI to write papers:
-don’t accuse them on using AI from the get-go and instead ask them to informally define all the huge words that they used in their essay which i know they don’t know the meaning of
-ask to see their original file where they “wrote” the essay. go to version history to see if it was just copy and pasted and then just edited a bit. i keep an eye out for the shit like “certainly! here’s an essay about….”
-if they own up to it, they can re-do the assignment for a higher grade even if there will be an automatic penalty. if they don’t, i process it like plagiarism and get my supervisor involved.
And this is much better than the immediate accusations. Some students have a good vocabulary. Stop accusing them of faking their essays without proof, and this is a good way to check.
Fellow students please stop using AI, go back to promising not to kill the school nerd if they do all your homework or something.

I’m not allowed to play paladin with one of my playgroups anymore, because the last time I did, one of the rogues in my party decided kill a townsperson in front of me “just to see what would happen,” and the moment she did I used a smite evil and killed her instantly. Everyone else (except the DM) thought it was a dick move that I basically forced her to roll an entirely new character after one night.
That’s the only proper way to play a paladin.
You pick a fight, you get the smite.
“it’s what my character would do” says the rogue.
“samesys!” Says the paladin, cheerfully rolling a nat 20 smite to destroy the rogue.
“everyone else except the DM thought it was a dick move” you and your DM need to get better players
