I am Riza; this is my nest. Make yourself cozy.
Drop by my askbox if you need anything. (I don't bite, I just nip affectionately. Careful of the talons!)

its crazy to me when people say they cant understand cat body language cause maybe its the ambigous neurodivergence in me but i find them easier to understand than people. they literally come with a rumble feature to let you know theyre happy. i wish i had that.
I’m very bad with cat body language, but fortunately they are fairly assertive animals who will let you know what they want by their behaviour if their more subtle signals aren’t being read properly. If they move away from me or bat/nip at me warningly (or, with less patient models who aren’t being listened to, bite or scratch) then they want me to stop what I am doing immediately. If they want to be pet they will rub the body part they want pet on my hands. If they want my attention then they will stand between me and whatever I am paying attention to. Even if you’re bad with subtlety, a cat will lose patience and get its message across pretty clearly. And when you get to know an individual cat, it becomes easier to read more subtle signals even if you’re naturally bad at it, and the cat learns to read you.
Big agree! Meanwhile, everyone talks about how dogs are so easy to understand, and I still can’t tell the difference between a dog that wants to be pet and one that’s nervously tolerating me. I asked the internet and the internet was like “how much of the whites of his eyes was showing? was his tail wagging stiff or loose?” and i’m like. damn. if a cat doesn’t want to be pet it just fuckin leaves.
I do have notifications still on for this post because I love the sense of community it gives me. We’re all just staring at each other blankly and occasionally screaming.
Also for the people who have post dates turned on and just go JESUS CHRIST FOUR YEARS AGO?!
I’m watching Splash (1984) which is a romcom about a guy who falls in love with a mermaid, and when she chooses a human name she chooses Madison and guy says “that’s not a real name, but alright” which seems to imply that Madison was not a name until at least the 80’s and all girls named Madison are actually named after the mermaid. thought you should know
What, the forest-dwelling entities with imperfect human mimicry who insinuate themselves into groups of hikers? Yeah, we had one of those. Clocked it immediately, of course. Honestly it kind of fell in that so-inept-it’s-kind-of-charming range. We just played along until it’d had it’s fill of marshmallows and shambled back into the treeline. We might have been violating some kind of killjoy wildlife contact best practices but what the hell, can’t plan around every little thing. Why, what happened to you guys
these tags are gold omg
It’s a misconception that the mimics are hunting humans when they trail along at the back of hiking groups.
In fact, the creature you’ll find suddenly walking beside you and acting as if they’ve always been there is almost certainly a juvenile, as the adults lose the ability when they reach reproductive age.
Recent studies suggest the forest mimic is less like a preying mantis (mimicry as a hunting strategy) and more like a cuckoo (mimicry as a protective strategy for their young). Adult forest mimics will leave their offspring near a group of hikers while they forage during the day, and retrieve them near trailheads in the evening. Groups of hikers provide safety from predators and allow the parents of the species the freedom to forage more widely.
For this reason, the traditional advice to never let a mimic into your vehicle is still very important, as this would separate the young mimic from its mother. If a juvenile forest mimic does follow your group to the parking lot, you can keep it entertained with trail snacks, dad jokes, and simple goofs. The mother will usually collect them shortly before sunset.
When you notice the woods around the trailhead go silent and feel a sense of nameless foreboding, find an excuse to avert your attention from the juvenile so it can sneak back into the forest to rejoin its mother, convinced it’s fooled another party of unsuspecting humans.
surprisingly wholesome takes from the cryptid community here
Other people already said it but sending immigrants to El Salvador is not a deportation but a kidnapping. Deportation is sending a person to their country of origin. This is something worse.
And think about what happens to these people who have no El Salvador citizenship once they arrive there and how they cannot leave El Salvador. First off, the US and El Salvador governments have to have an agreement otherwise El Salvador would not accept these people. Secondly, they are ending up in literal “Mega-Prisons” to do God knows what. They can’t leave the country even if they were free since they likely have no documentation/money after being snatched up from their homes in the US. They are deporting people with no criminal record and this is really just the definition of human trafficking.
I JUST REMEMBERED HEARING AN ELON MUSK QUOTE WHERE HE TALKS ABOUT HOW HE BELIEVES CHESS IS “TOO SIMPLE” OR WHATEVER AND HE SAID HIS FAVORITE GAME WAS A GAME CALLED “POLYTOPIA”
I JUST REMEMBERED THAT IVE PLAYED POLYTOPIA
It being Elon’s favorite game (or at least one so important to him that his biographer dedicates a lot of time to it) is…..really really funny.
Basically, imagine Civilization, but as a mobile game. So like if Civilization Revolution was even more dumbed down (that’s a Civilization insult. That’s devastating. It’s devastated right now). For what it’s worth, it’s not a bad game. On the contrary, from what I could tell in the little bit of time I played it, it’s a perfectly competent game with good design. But it’s not a deep game by any means. I played through it once, won easily on my first go, then saw that the other playable characters had barely any differences between them.
Like, not to imply you can judge a book by its cover, but here’s what it looks like
I came across an article by Dave Karpf discussing this exact thing, and I think it describes it wonderfully
⬆️ racial unity now is matching funds for the detainees and their families. please help if you can.
it’s shameful how long i had to look to find an article covering this story that gives more information besides saying “37 undocumented workers were arrested wednesday.” cascadia news and the AP were the only sources i found that include any journalism whatsoever beyond the police report.
contrary to popular belief not everyone has an innate sense of internal gender or care to have one or seek a name for it, some people go their whole lives without questioning their occupation in one of two gender roles, but for some people, if pressed, they don’t feel that internal sense of ‘i am a woman’ or ‘i am a man’, and in that case i feel the switch over to transgender vs cisgender relies on active identification of a gender other than the one they were assigned. if someone’s like ‘idk dude I just work here’ then that’s valid
A portion of people in the notes are like ‘but that makes you trans. That’s called being agender’ and another portion of people are going ‘this is how the majority of cis ppl feel and it’s NOT agender’ and personally I feel like both of them are missing the point here. Yes a lot of people identify as agender because of this feeling. Yes a lot of people with this same feeling still identify as cis. These are not mutually exclusive experiences and it doesn’t mean the agender people are secretly cis or the cis people are secretly agender. It just means they have very similar experiences of gender that they choose to conceptualize and label differently, and neither of them are mistaken or wrong to do so.
you say “weeds” I say “widespread non-native edible plant and early-blooming pollinator resource that is not considered invasive because it behaves politely and does not cause deleterious ecological consequences”
