I know I'm a small fish in the data hoarder ocean but my media server share (omnibus) is still pretty fuckin big IMO and the x265 gains there are impossible to ignore

because it's a media server share I don't care about redundancy so this is a straight up pool--the drives are combined into one space and if any drive in the pool fails you lose everything.

I maintain backups of all my media so the share is simply the live copy and capacity is the only goal--so a pool is completely acceptable. But you need to know your data and its value before you do this.

If you're not a retard though a ZFS pool is extremely easy to set up and will serve you well.
