ok but roadrunners are so cool, I can seldom think of a bird more velociraptor-like
more people need to know they’re real because look at this, this is some real walking with dinosaurs shit
they have powerful legs allowing them to run up to 20mph and leap to impressive heights with ease
they are extremely swift and fearless, quick enough to take down a sizable rattlesnake and other large prey animals like lizards and mice
they have several unique adaptations to thermoregulate, such as the dark patch of feathers on their back which acts as a solar panel to absorb heat, or its crest that either releases or absorbs heat by exposing its skin
they have these long, stiff tailfeathers that they use as a counterbalance when running, very reminiscent of the rod-like tail of a dromaeosaur
and they are capable of bursts of flight/gliding with incredibly beautiful plumage
I’m genuinely shocked how many people think they’re made up, they are real and they are AWESOME

They’re also super territorial and have their own territories and defend them with the bravery of a bull. I’m in New Mexico, and we have one on our block that is pissed off my back yard became a catio. Every time I get in my car at 11:40AM, he’s near my car like >:V ready to fight.

some people think this is a shitpost so i want to clarify that i am dead fucking serious. make mage the official gender neutral honorific NOW. i want it on my passport. i want it on my bank account. i want doctors and judges to use it for me. i don’t care if it sounds a little silly. people thought “missus” sounded crass at first. call me mg.
benefits of mg:
easy to pronounce, even for children (though kids 4 & younger may pronounce it more like “mayd” or “maygh”)
ONE SYLLABLE!!! (“individual” is too goddamn LONG.) you have to be able to say it quickly and casually
ends in a soft vowel sound, so it’ll flow right into the next word (“ind” halts the whole sentence)
fits neatly into the existing structure as a relative of master/mistress that can be abbreviated down to an m and one other letter
distinct enough that it can’t be mistaken for either gendered term (if you call me mix I’ll kill you. it sounds like miss with extra steps)

I hate the sound of babies crying, but I can’t hate a baby. They’ve been here for like five minutes and approach this situation with an unhesitant attitude of “my needs are unmet and I am going to make it everybody’s problem”, and I respect that.
Something I read years ago and completely agree with, is that human babies are pretty helpless compared to many other species. We can’t walk or run within hours of being born, as many mammals can. We don’t have teeth yet, to defend ourselves. We can’t get our own food for a long time.
But one thing human babies are really good at - often within seconds of being born - is asking for help.
As we mature and gain new skills - vocabulary both verbal and written, gestures, facial expressions, and so forth - the way we ask for help changes. But babies have just one way of asking for help - filling their lungs with air and wailing. And they’re right to do so! Their needs are unmet and they cannot do a damn thing about it except request assistance.
There’s plenty of adults who could stand to take some pointers.
