“I formed Radish in 1993 with childhood friends, John David Kent (drums) and Ryan Green (bass). Teenage punks, we started with a sixties garage sound mixed with the common nineties soup of angsty-pho-British accented vocals, slap bass and overly-ambitious drumming. The musical brew can be heard on our debut, Hello. Dizzy came next and has more of a classic rock feel a’la Boston but still with Stone Temple Pilots/Alice In Chains melodic tendencies. Green left the band in '95 and was temporarily replaced by Loren Hamilton before Bryan Blur joined up. Blur was older than us and helped us shed our over-playing-funk stylez. We further stripped our sound down with producer, Roger Greenawalt, whom I met through my mentor, Nils Lofgren. The album, Restraining Bolt, came out when I was 15. John and I dropped out of high school, hit the road and became the "Sugar Metal" band that we were known for. In '98, Debbie Williams (bass) and Joe Butcher (guitar) joined up. We went to Muscle Shoals with producer, Bryce Goggin, spread our musical wings, and recorded an epic double album called, Discount Fireworx. Our business peeps didn’t “hear a hit” so they gave us the masters but at the same time, we broke up and never released the album. I moved to NYC in ‘98 to pursue a solo career. Please follow us to stay up to date on all the reissues we have planned. While I do cringe at some of it, I'm still very proud of the work we did as kids. It's 100% part of my story.” xo – Ben Kweller
