Moon-chosen, Moon-guided - Part III

Fandom: Baldur’s Gate 3
Characters: Dame Aylin/Isobel Thorm, with guest appearances by Jaheira, Shadowheart, Halsin, Ketheric and Balthazar
Length: ~27000 words
Rating: M, for canon-typical violence and sexual content, along with mild body horror

It’s been a minute, hasn’t it? Please enjoy this absolute monster, longer than the previous two parts of the fic combined. I just had a great many things I wanted to address, bits and pieces I wanted to explore, and many loose ends I wanted to tie up.

This part spans the post-game - or how I’ve decided to envision it for these two, at least. Features yet more hurt/comfort and dealing with trauma, including the two classics of Isobel’s back-from-the-dead issues and Aylin’s apparent immunity to the idea of self-preservation, but also much building and rebuilding, some dinners (romantic and otherwise), some important discoveries being made and villains being thwarted, a lot of love, and a whole lot of feelings.

Summary:

There is a part of Aylin still in that cage. There is a part of you still in that grave.

From that night of your coming-of-age ritual when you astounded all of Reithwin with the uncanny speed of your return from the woods, to your desperate flight away from your own grave, one thing has remained true. The guidance was granted, no matter the harshness or difficulty of the path. But it has always, always been up to you to walk it.

The brilliant, defiant Beacon of Last Light many revere from afar. Isobel Thorm they do not know at all.

Part III - Everlasting Light - The Future

A battle won; an invasion thwarted.

Days later, you and Aylin lie together in a warm bath in a lovely and, miraculously, mostly untouched inn suite. An endlessly grateful proprietor adamantly rebuffed all your attempts to refuse the accommodation after you cleared a clutch of Absolutists out of it, so you linger in the city well after you thought you would, even when the most pressing crises and celebrations have both been dealt with.

It is in this surprisingly comfortable aftermath and hard-won peace that the two of you discuss plans, both immediate and distant. A future, a life: the first in an array of luxuries you can scarcely believe you have been afforded.

Let It Burn Slowly

Fandom: Baldur’s Gate 3
Characters: Dame Aylin/Isobel Thorm, with a bit of Wyll/Karlach on the side
Length: ~6100 words
Rating: E, for canon-typical violence and smut

Summary:

“Tonight, you rest,” Aylin states with all the certainty in the Realms, and smiles, gloriously accomplished and genuinely loving.

Aylin is devastatingly handsome and distracting throughout, laughing, happy, almost carefree - in the hells, of all places. Isobel sips at the sweet dregs of her goblet and supposes she can’t blame her - their immediate future promises time spent fighting a simple fight, for a simple cause, at the side of good, stalwart people.

The start of an adventure in literal hell, or a series of somewhat unusual double dates - who can say?

I was challenged to write something out of my regular hurt/comfort flavoured character study wheelhouse; namely, playing with a) plot and b) an actual explicit sex scene. This is the result, concocted over the past few days. The first half of this sets up a friendly reunion with two of my personal favourite camp buddy combos and the start of an adventure with a couple of hopefully interesting threads to pursue. The second half is entirely smut, which I have never really written before, so here goes nothing, I guess. Specifically, this contains cunnilingus, fingering, face-sitting, and the mildest suggestion of armour kink.

To be continued? Possibly! In the meantime, enjoy, and do let me know how I did.

Let It Burn Slowly

Aylin lands in a jagged gouge in the scorched-barren ground of Avernus, between the rocky ruins of what must once have been a hilltop fortification and a field of pointed bone-brambles, and sets Isobel down with customary care.

As soon as she is certain her beloved has found her footing, with a squeeze of a hand and a quick kiss, Aylin rushes forward into the noisy, echoing fray a few dozen feet away, wings furiously beating, sword ready and gleaming.

Their two allies stand back to back, completely surrounded by enemies - but giving a good accounting of themselves, even so. The infernal line breaks beneath the first wave of Dame Aylin’s radiant assault, and both Wyll and Karlach pull back to safely regroup at Isobel’s side.

“Hello,” she says simply, hands already aglow with restorative magic.

Also, while we’re on the subject of stories, one of the reasons I paused my binge-read of your Aysobel fics is because I became a little fixated with one of the snippets you wrote in “Moon Chosen - Moon Guided” and it led me to start writing an expansion fic about the snippet in question. THEN I stopped writing that because I realized you might feel incredibly weird about someone writing fanfic about your fanfic. Do you feel weird? It’s okay to say yes.

I absolutely do NOT feel weird! On the contrary!

Posting the answer to this one publicly because I do want people to be aware I gave a blanket permission both here and on AO3. Transformative/derivative works related to mine, or inspired by mine in any way, are absolutely welcome and encouraged! In fact I find this sort of thing immensely and incredibly flattering. I also firmly believe riffing off of each other and building on ideas like this within a community is what fandom is all about.

So yeah, absolutely have at it! Now I’m all 👀 over which snippet it was that did it.

I feel curious, so here’s a question: if you could have me write one thing right now immediately, what would it be? As specific or as vague as you want, however weird or unlikely or silly or serious or long or short, whether I’ve written something related before or not, whatever fandom or context. Anon or not, asks are fine, replies are fine, just go for it.

Moonmaiden’s Reconstitution

Fandom: Baldur’s Gate 3
Characters: Dame Aylin/Isobel Thorm, minor appearances by a few supporting OCs
Length: ~10000 words
Rating: T, for angst and references to canon-typical violence.
Summary:

“We have grown up on tales of your exploits, hearing about the Sword of the Silverlight. It is a nigh-unimaginable honour to be able to thank you in person. On the eve of a grand ceremony, no less, here at the heart of Our Lady’s worship!”

Unimaginable, Aylin thinks to herself with a rising bitterness, casting another glance over the large hall, skirting over heads and faces, failing to find the one she yearns for. How long need one be gone for, to pass even from imagination?

A year after the defeat of the Absolute, their travels take Aylin and Isobel to Waterdeep, to the House of the Moon, where they are both driven to confront things they were trying to avoid.

Contains various flavours of angst, dealing with trauma, and emotional hurt/comfort, as well as a bath. Also contains the author thinking the House of the Moon is cool, while also finding it very convenient and fitting that it has very detailed writeups and maps… that are about 100 years out of date in-universe, save for one little addition and a brief mention in one 5e adventure. This started off as a bit of a followup or companion piece to With Tremulous Cadence Slow before growing completely out of control.

Written for day 4 of Aylin/Isobel Week 2025, for the prompts: Returned to the fold of time | Hero worship, smitten, argument, anger

Moonmaiden’s Reconstitution

Dame Aylin is ill at ease.

Even here, in the mightiest citadel of her Mother’s faithful, where Her face gazes down on Aylin from statues and reliefs and frescoes around every corner. Where the night is as bright as it should always be: lit gently with motes of moonlight and pale droplets embraced in the petals of a flower-garden; lambent silver filling fountains and pools, shining from secluded chapel niches and lofty domes alike.

The House of the Moon is as magnificent as any palace other than Argentil could ever hope to be. White stone intricately carved, tiled marble; blue and silver everywhere one looked, topped with gleaming gold. Why, if Aylin felt like it, she could don her armour, stand stock-still next to a line of statues, and the visitors passing her by would surely be none the wiser.

Had this whole thing rolling around in my mind again recently while pondering (and craving) post-game stuff for these two, so here’s a little self-reblog.

Oh, hey, long time no Isobel update! This is where she is atm.

Legs are done, with that whole… crescent moon spurs situation.

By far the most terrifying part, painting the face, also ultimately went quite well. In general, the sculpt is just so good it makes everything easier.

Still a lot of cleanup to do on the robes, and of course there’s still the entire chest piece, but she’s coming together pretty nicely, I think.

Hey @vampire-chunks this was such a sweet surprise (I mean this very genuinely, I’d completely forgotten I had a ko-fi link set up here). Thank you so much! As instructed, I will make sure to get the most ridiculously self-indulgent panini with the fancy DOP bresaola and whatnot.

Love it when random camp convo screenshots end up looking like a meme.

These two are a really fun combination, btw. Especially the “I’m from the asteroid cluster next to the moon” convo, you know, considering.

so I know that the moon maidens are like, servants of Selune or whatever and aren't related to Aylin but I really like the thought of them being Aylin's older sisters (maybe demigods, maybe fully celestial). I just adore the idea of them teasing Aylin about having a crush on Isobel and getting really protective of her because sure, she's a damn good fighter but also that's their giant baby sister dammit.

Listen, the change to the wizard tower encounter is probably my favourite post-release addition and I am so glad someone continued to tinker with that bit of the game. Aylin summoning a whole angelic moon-posse to obliterate your traitorous ass, while her goddess mother heaps buffs upon her with names and tooltips flavoured like “mum loves you, go destroy them bby”, is absolutely a huge part of it.

Love to see it.

But while I think it’s great the Slivers got featured in the game, the relationship you describe is something I really like to headcanon for her and the Shards of Selûne. There’s seven of them, they’re Selûne’s awesome elite guard, they’re planetars, which makes them incredibly powerful celestials, and the one description of them that’s always trotted out boils down to “wings, blue hair, and she/her pronouns”. I love it. I love making really bad jokes about it. I think they should all get to be a bit silly and dote on their giant little “sister” or “cousin” or whatever we feel like calling the relationship (and hey, who even knows what’s up with Aylin, springing out of that “silvered flesh” and “celestial womb”).

Becoming a Shard is also something that can be an honour bestowed upon favoured priestesses, so the gang teasing Aylin about how her wife might join them one day and become way cooler than her is an idea that amuses me (I also see this done with kindly intent, perhaps when thoughts of Isobel’s mortality creep in just a bit too close).

Anyway, wishing peaceful times upon all of them for a good while, envisioning Selûne and Sune sitting by eating divine popcorn as the romcom unfolds once again.
