It was a fantastic few days for Paul Gallop, Aaron Birley, Carlos Michel, Shelley Messent, Nicola Montgomery, and Wendy Joe in Dunedin last week at the Wealthpoint Ltd Conference, connecting with familiar faces and meeting new brokers from across the industry. With our partnership spanning over 25 years, the connection with Wealthpoint is built on incredible, multi-generational relationships. Shelley Messent reflected that the conference feels more like a reunion, an opportunity to celebrate shared milestones, have a few laughs, and focus on how we win together in the year ahead. Thank you to Wealthpoint for a great event, we look forward to another year of partnership!

For businesses like tradies, couriers, and installers, a van or ute isn't just transport, it’s a mobile workshop packed with tools, equipment, and stock. When a business vehicle breaks down, the entire working day stops with it. That’s why Vero Roadside Assistance, delivered by AA New Zealand Roadservice, is built to minimise light commercial vehicle downtime for business clients. AA Service Officer Mike sees it every day: “They can’t just jump in another car, all their gear is in that vehicle, so getting them moving again fast is what really counts.” Mike loves to help businesses get back on the road, and his favourite part of the job is simple: people are relieved when he arrives, and relieved again when they can get going.

For current graduate Nala Ismail, the Suncorp New Zealand Graduate Programme has been a chance to say yes to new opportunities, explore different parts of the business and build confidence along the way. “I was drawn to the variety of opportunities available,” Nala says. “The graduate program gives you the chance to explore different areas of the business while building a strong foundation.” Several months in, Nala says the rotations have helped her discover what interests her, where her strengths are and the career pathways she could pursue. She says the welcoming support from the team made it easier to settle in and feel comfortable not knowing everything from day one. A standout moment so far has been the 2026 Thrive Graduate Conference in Brisbane, including a community initiative supporting Starlight children. “It made me proud to be part of a program that focuses on more than just professional development,” Nala says. Applications for the 2027 Suncorp New Zealand Graduate Programme are now open. Technology & Data Science close today and all other disciplines 31 August 2026. A little change of scenery for our Executive General Manager, Business, Sacha Cowlrick, who was on the Gold Coast last week for Aon’s first Pacific Leaders Conference. Alongside colleagues from Vero Australia and Vero Liability, it was a great opportunity to bring our trans-Tasman teams together and spend time with our Aon broker partners, building on a long and valued relationship. The Gala Dinner was a great way to bring everyone together, with 450 people raising AU$160,000 for Surf Life Saving ANZ, and a special shout out to Kate H. for embracing the cause – pictured with Paul Gallop shark suit and all! Thanks to the Aon team for a great conference, we look forward to continuing the journey together.

For current graduate Ryan McGuire, the Suncorp New Zealand Graduate Programme has offered the chance to learn, contribute and grow from day one. “What attracted me most was the chance to rotate through different areas of the business and learn from experienced professionals,” Ryan says. “From the outset, it was clear Suncorp invests in its graduates.” He says the welcoming, people-first culture made it easy to ask questions, get involved and build confidence early. Now almost eight months in, Ryan says graduates are trusted with meaningful work from the start - from reporting and analysis to projects that contribute to real business outcomes. His advice for anyone considering applying? Be curious, open to learning and ready to make the most of the opportunity. Applications for the 2027 Suncorp New Zealand Graduate Programme open 18 August 2026. Explore the programme and apply (link in comments)

Looking ahead, we'll continue investing in better systems, improved service and streamlined broker experiences, making it easier to do business with Vero and helping us deliver sustainable outcomes for customers together.
We've released our 2026 full-year financial results, reporting a resilient performance despite softer premium growth, elevated natural hazard claims and lower investment income. Throughout the year, our focus has remained firmly on supporting customers and communities impacted by severe weather events, while continuing to invest in the capabilities, technology and service improvements that support our partners and customers.
