“it is good to love many things, for therein lies true strength… and what is done in love is well done.” [vincent van gogh]
✨🪴🍄 hello! 🍄🪴✨

my name’s ami! you might know me as mother-of-houseplants on AO3, where i post mostly sad shameless (us) stuff. please feel free to reach out if you want to chat about writing! or … anything, haha!

please dni with any hateful or disrespectful language <3

These scenes always make me think about Fionas and Frank's relationship pre s1 so I'm gonna talk about it.

The way she flinches and makes herself as small as possible HURTS me.

I think its important to put that she doesn't have the same reaction when men she doesn't know shout at her. Fiona can confidently get into confrontations with strangers. This is why I link it back to Frank. Fiona isn't scared cause she being screamed at its because someone she loves and cares about is doing it.

Whenever Frank's physical abuse is brought up, people almost always go to Ian as an example as he's the one who we see it happen to most. This is fine, but I think because Ian is such a clear representation, people often don't think about the other siblings.

Frank was likely much more violent towards fiona than we see in the show. I have a few reasons for thinking this.

Whatever you do don't think about how lip and ian are the only 2 men fiona has ever trusted, the only ones that have always been there and have always had her back, and how in those moments when they're violently yelling at her she is probably seeing her father's face.

Anonymous asked:

About your Lip resenting Debbie and Ian take: Agreed. BUT you should read ‘Mom, Am I still Young’ by mother-of-houseplants on ao3 because it explores a similar guilty but resentful feeling (just with Fiona and Ian rather than lip).

Hi Anon! I’m actually going to yes, and this for a second

Yes! I focused on Lip’s relationship with Monica specifically because he used to be her “favorite” but her attention shifted to Ian and Debbie and the show didn’t really pick up on it which I thought was weird, that’s the only reason! (It has nothing to do with the fact that I’m an eldest daughter and thinking about Fiona and Monica's relationship gives me physical anxiety)

And I think your excellent fic reference has made me start to think about the way Fiona might have struggled with Debby and Monica’s bond over the shared experience of motherhood and more intensely

More thoughts about Debby and Fiona and Monica and motherhood below the cut

I’ll never forget people on here being mad at Fiona for being upset that jimmy-steve took Frank to Canada bc he hit Ian and they think that means she should’ve been ok with it

Fiona was Frank’s daughter and victim too. Did we all just forget that or

“He hurt Ian!!” Yea that’s terrible but he also hurt Fiona a million times too - she was a traumatized woman who still couldn’t get herself not to love her abusive father.

They literally all wanted Frank to come back from Canada bc they didn’t know any different yet and they were all traumatized

“this character should kill their abuser” i agree. unfortunately they wouldn’t do that.

like it feels like “some people can have complex feelings about or even love their abusers” is tough for a lot of people to grasp because they’d rather have some kind of easy karmic retribution toward a character at the hands of their victims. which i sympathize with. but sometimes they just wouldn’t do that, you know?

jimmy's death being retconned must be the most frustrating and inexplicable writing decision on the entire showwww. his death and character arc were SOOO GOOD THEY WERE SO GOOD. the way every step he made to improving himself as a person left him less on the defense in his criminal connections and closer to his death but he never would've improved as a person had he not chosen to ditch his nice normal life to do those crimes in the first place

the thing about jimmy dying is he was slightly too confident in his illegality which kind of was fine when he wasn't attached to somebody but when he started putting fiona first it started to bite him in the ass that he was so confident. because he didnt have the time to go back and panic fix things anymore an neglected to pay attention to the one thing thatd keep him alive
