Notre-Dameā€™s Bells Ring

The bells of Notre Dame in Paris rang this morning for the first time since the fire in 2019.

In 2019, the 850-year-old building was engulfed by a devastating blaze, which burned for several hours.

me as a writer: Oh no I canā€™t write that, somebody else already has

me as a reader: hell yes give me all the fics about this one scenario. The more the merrier

This one is so hard to accept. Reblogging to knock that into my brain.

Me as a writer: I feel like Iā€™m repeating myself, Iā€™ve already used that theme, Iā€™ve already written that kink, that other character uses that speech pattern so this one in another fandom canā€™t, I feel like Iā€™m writing predictable things, is this different enough from that other thing I wrote, are people filling out bingo cards by my work? :sobbing:

Me as a reader: oh hell yeah this hit the spot exactly, I hope this writer has written 20 more just like it

As one friend said when I felt I was reusing a theme too much, nobody ever says, Did Agatha Christie write about murder again?

I actually laughed out loud at the last one. A very good point.

ā€œI love this, I hope there isnā€™t anything else out there like it!ā€ Said no one ever

Sometimes you just really need other people to point out the obvious to you! Thanks, guys.

I remember being in a tiny fandom and reading every story a particular writer had written in that fandom, and then every other story they had written for good measure. Probably around 30-35 stories in all.

In every single story they wrote, one of the main characters either had, acquired, or considered adopting or buying a Bedlington Terrier. Always that one type of dog.

I never got tired of it. By about story 7 I was reading along thinking ā€˜when is the little lamb dog going to show up?ā€™ and it didnā€™t even blip my weirdness radar.

Do your thing over and over again, friend.

ā€¦. I guess Iā€™ll do the thing

I just want you all to know, that if and when this site does experience a real exodus and/or get sunsetted for good, even if we donā€™t keep in touch Iā€™ll remember you so fondly. Youā€™re the online equivalent of the other kid on the beach where we built sandcastles together; the girl at the campsite where we explored the trees. Youā€™re the drunk person who shared kind words in the bathroom at the club, youā€™re the talented artists at the life drawing class or the poetry night in a city where I donā€™t live anymore. It makes me sad that maybe in the future our paths wonā€™t cross so easily, but even when we leave this little shared piece of cyberspace, carried away on our briefly intersecting trajectories, just know I still love you

Will The World Remember You When You Fall?

The World Remembers.

Yā€™all šŸ«¶šŸ»āœØšŸ”„!!

Tomorrow Iā€™m off to Paris for a week! (And then road trip to Monetā€™s garden in Giverny and the northern coast iihhh!)

So do my fellow Les Mis nerds on here have any recommendations for where to go in Paris?!?

pilferingapples:

okay so this post is wrong but what the heck itā€™s a Tumblr post, right, itā€™s mostly a joke, only itā€™s so perfectly echoing an idea Iā€™ve seen elsewhere too, from actual paid critics and academic critiques, that Hugo ā€œwasnā€™t writing for emotional teenagersā€, that heā€™d be horrified by fandom, that he was too High and Erudite for the likes of  screaming theater kids and emotional teenagers

yā€™all. Yā€™all.

Victor Hugo knew what fandom was.  And he absolutely LOVED it.
