WordPress is powered by contributors across many teams, not just code. From Community and Polyglots to Docs, Support, Training, CoreCore Core is the set of software required to run WordPress. The Core Development Team builds WordPress., and beyond, thousands of people contribute in different ways. The Contributor Dashboard helps surface that work in a unified and accessible way.
The goal of the dashboard is to:
- Make contribution pathways visible
- Recognize contributors across all teams
- Clarify how participation evolves over time
- Support a more sustainable contributor ecosystem
The Contributor Ladder
The Contributor Dashboard is guided by a shared framework for understanding participation patterns over time:
Connect Contribute Engage Perform Lead
The ladder is:
- Behavior-based, not role-based
- Descriptive, not evaluative
- A way to understand participation patterns, not measure contribution value
Ladder Stages Overview
Connect – Discovering the project or exploring how to get involved
Contribute – Making a first recorded contribution
Engage – Participating consistently over time
Perform – Taking ownership of work or supporting others
Lead – Providing mentorship or team-level leadership
The ladder creates shared language across teams and helps make contributor journeys more visible and understandable.
