Coming to tumblr because god knows where else I can ask for book recs this specific and expect answers.

Does anyone have any recommendations for urban fantasy books with transfemme protagonists who arent out or just came out at the start of the story?

kvothbloodless

Actually, I guess it doesnt have to be urban fantasy. I just want some form of scifi/fantasy thats similar-ish to real life in terms of dealing with social pressures and consequences of transitioning. The Gods Are Bastards had an amazing arc with this, transition alchemy and priestess TERFS included. Currently working my way through the Dreadnought series and this is Perfect.

Also, Im gonna @bookcub & @logarithmicpanda because what are mutuals for if not ridiculous things like this

So the Nemesis series was incredible, highly recommend it. Burke Misadventures was also very fun, even if its also somewhat copaganda. Book 1 was all around incredible and i binged it Very fast, and the 2nd one was also pretty good. I couldnt get into Light from Uncommon Stars, it was a bit too bizarre for me.

Homestly i think what im really looking for doesnt exist 😂. I loved Nemesis and Burke Misadventures, but they were very ... plot heavy. I need someone to write books for the extremely specific genre that only exists in my head (transfemme saphic romance with a full fantasy/scifi plot definitely happening, but like, in the background/between shit, while the transition and a bit of the romance are in the foreground)

I have become desperate. Am now askimg for suggestions for any non-contemporary fiction (so fantasy, urban fantasy, scifi, dystopia, etc.) books, graphic novels, podcasts, visual novels, and web serials which at least somewhat focus on any transfemme or wlw character at any point in the process between “Im cishet” and “I know exactly what my identity is, Im comfortable with it and am living with that identity openly in not-negative conditions, and the people in my life are stabilized in terms of their reactions to it”.

what I like about Achilles is that he knows he'll die young if he chooses fame and picks it anyway. but he doesn't anticipate Patroclus dying first. maybe he imagined he would have a heroic death and Patroclus would be the one to remember him and make him famous. but he turned down the offered future where he's forgotten by history & his loved ones live. maybe that's the first time Achilles takes a look at the price tag attached to the gods giving you exactly what you want

Apparently, my decision to be silly and make fanart of someone's writing (because I genuinely enjoy the story the person is writing and I was struck with inspiration upon reading a particular scene) has benevolent and wildly unforeseen consequences.

  1. I apparently gained a bit of control of the canon because said writer really loved the art and decided what I drew/draw is canon.

2. Writer put said artwork into the document of his story right below the scene, so now it's IN the story where people who read the story will see it (with a link to me)

3. He sent the artwork to all his friends and people he knows because he was so excited

Wholesome interaction and I watched him do all that in real time, good stuff. However...there are two more consequences I was notified of today...nearly a full week after I gave the artwork.

  1. Seeing the artwork caused his friends to become interested in reading and hearing about his story, which means more people are reading what he's writing and giving him critique on the story (which he actively asks for).
  2. Apparently, upon seeing the art, his writer friends got a sudden second wind to pick back up writing they'd abandoned for a few months. Because, I quote, "seeing that someone enjoyed {his} writing enough to take the time to make art of it gave them the motivation that maybe THEY can write something that will inspire someone to also create something." I have accidentally caused a writing frenzy among his writer friends and my silly idea to make art for someone has had a butterfly effect for people who I don't even know.

Uhh...I'm pretty sure there's a moral here but I am tired and have a great deal of emotions about this.

the moral is peace and love on planet earth. and getting stuff made specifically for you unprompted is cool as fuck

internet politics and real-world politics have gotten so separated, and pretty soon all this internet weirdness is gonna come crashing into real life and politicians are gonna start throwing around words like “SJW” and “anime communist” and “dark enlightenment” and it’s just gonna be the most ridiculous fucking thing

shoutout to the woman from my high school martial arts class who liked to get me in joint locks and then joke about how I was easy to catch. you cannot comprehend how psychosexually formative that was for me

agnesandhilda

imagine, if you will, having an adolescent half-crush on someone way older than you, which is also confusingly blurred up with admiration of them as a role model. now imagine that you and that person are in a social environment where it is acceptable to (platonically, consensually) choke someone. I think I was very normal about it considering the circumstances

agnesandhilda

she would demonstrate takedowns on her husband (also in the class, and who was not a small man) before we got to try them and the first time I saw her twist him around and down onto the floor like it was easy my entire abdomen clenched

agnesandhilda

I cannot stress enough how eager this guy was to be manhandled (womanhandled?) and flipped around by his wife. he was her de facto guinea pig whenever she got to teach and I never saw him unenthusiastic about it. he'd set himself up for a joint lock fully smiling. the other adults in the class occasionally teased him about it (being so quick to let your wife put you in a submission hold tends to raise a few eyebrows), and I always kind of wanted to defend him but what would I have said? like, don't worry. I won't judge you. I also like being pinned down by your wife

That last sentance really hits ya like a psychosexually formative takedown
