Just saw a tik tok of someone trying to claim that Bob Ross was partaking in cultural appropriation because of his hair
My sibling in hashem he was jewish that's just how his hair grows. It's a common enough thing that there is a literal term for it, jewfro, jew afro. Literally not an uncommon way for someone who is Jewish to have their hair grow naturally.
I can’t find any evidence that Bob Ross was Jewish, and it seems like his hair was permed (originally to save on haircuts, later because the network wouldn’t let him change it).

You have to clear the house of all products that contain leaven, you’ve got to clean everything, you’ve got to take out a new set of utensils and cutlery and crockery, and it is really hard work. I got somebody in England to design a special apron for Passover cleaning that read, “For this, we left Egypt?”
I used to wonder, why make Passover such hard work? And now I know: because freedom is hard work. And it has to be fought for in every generation. We have to tell and re-tell the story. We have to remind ourselves what it feels like each year to eat the bread of affliction and taste the bitter herbs of slavery.

Twice a year — prior to the Jewish holidays of Passover and Rosh Hashanah — the notes are removed from the wall and taken for burial in the Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives, just across the Kidron Valley from the Old City. Because the notes are prayers and often contain the name of God, Jewish law regards them as holy texts that cannot be simply thrown away. They are treated instead like sacred texts that have fallen into disuse and are buried.
The process is overseen by the rabbi of the Western Wall and his staff, all of whom prepare for the task by first immersing in a ritual mikveh bath. They then use wooden poles to gently remove the notes and place them into bags for transport to the Mount of Olives. The notes are not read.

"The notes are not read." - There's a (Christian) tradition in my country for letters to the Christkind or Father Christmas or Santa Claus to be delivered to designated post office, where volunteers read and answer them. Those letters are typically written by children, wishlists for Christmas, for material and immaterial things - and no, the volunteers don't deliver gifts, of course, but they do keep the story alive. It is done in love, with the understanding that the letter-writer will (perhaps not expect, but) appreciate the reply.
This here is different, but driven by love as well - just, there is a respect here that these notes are a matter between the note-leaver and whomever they addressed their note to, not a matter for the people who take care of the notes after they're left. The love that these notes are being given doesn't say, "let's read these and then let's pretend to be G-d and reply;" it says, "this was meaningful for you to leave here, and so it is meaningful for us, and we will consider it sacred." There is the trust that no reply to the note is necessary; that indeed the act of leaving the note is what makes the meaning, not the presence or absenve of a reply (or at least that's how I read this; I am no scholar of any religion, and I hope I'm not overstepping saying this.) (also, impersonating G-d? how about let's not.) (also, who's to say if the note-leaver hasn't already received their reply, in their own soul, in their own conversation with whomever they addressed their note to?)

For my Goyim friends who don't get the joke:
The first image shows a bunch of random stuff from a whole bunch of Jewish holidays, none of which are Passover. At a glance I see Hanukkah (menorah, dreidel), Rosh Hashanah (apples and honey, pomegranate), Sukkot (harvested apples), and a bunch of other random Jewish desserts which may or may not be intended as holiday-specific ones. Many leavened breads are on display.
The remaining images all show leavened bread, which is one thing that is universally disallowed during Passover, as we are celebrating our history of being slaves who very quickly left Egypt and didn't have time to let the dough rise; unleavened bread is the symbol of exodus.
There's a glass of wine. Wine is Passover.

Ethiopia has one of the longest continuously practicing Jewish communities in the world, dating back to the 4th century CE. Being so old and so distant from other major Jewish communities, Ethiopian Jews have their own particular traditions, and one is explored here.
The day before Passover, Workitu and her sister must smash all of their family's crockery, including Workitu's favorite cup. Workitu is distraught over her loss, until she learns that all the clay is softened and worked into the plates, cups, and other tools that will be used for the following year, allowing her to keep her cup, but in a new form.
This story is less about religion, and more about emotions, family, and tradition. It is a celebration of unique heritage, and one that we really don't see much in picture books.
Oh, but why, oh why, is this book being released in the US on the LAST DAY of Passover!? I want to read this to my nephews! But our big family Seder is on night 2! I can only hope that someone manages to push through an early ebook publication, but it looks grim.
If you're going to have final-night seder with your family (or if you're in the UK, where this book already released), pick this up, definitely. And I shall envy you.
