Thank goodness. Some positive reinforcement at last!
So good to have your efforts recognized, no?

And yet so many of my fellow Americans wish to re-elect Donald Trump.
They don't care as long as he let's them hate the people they want to hate.
Obama may not have been the perfect president, no one is or will be, obviously, but he was a hell of a lot better than any the republicans got elected recently - from Nixon on tbh.
Great sentiment but not nearly the high bar that is implied.
Freedom of religion under the US Constitution allows all to practice as their faith proscribes.
It does not allow you to impose your religious beliefs on others.
Freedom of religion implies freedom from religion.
Pray all you want to, just don't expect me to adhere to your world view.
You promise? Pinkie swear?

In one of the show's most memorable moments, Stevie Wonder plays a funky, 7-minute live version of "Superstition" on Sesame Street.
I remember this. Amazing to see him on Sesame Street. And Superstition is one of the best Funk songs of all time. No debate.
This was my dad while I was growing up. His gin & tonics were 99% gin & 1% tonic.
And now my son has followed in his footsteps!
This video was filmed inside the Arctic Circle, just between the Canada-Alaska-Russia border. This phenomenon can only be observed once a year, for 36 seconds. The moon appears and disappears. Immediately afterward, there is a 5-second total solar eclipse.
This phenomenon only occurs at perigee - the point where the moon is closest to the earth.
Too cool not to reblog!
We have to start teaching people science through these kinds of things.
Show people how amazing the world is. How incredible this blue little mud ball is that we live on & the universe we live in.
This is True Magic. Deep Magic.
Real.

"Honey? The dog's being impossible again!"
This is one of those things that I already knew was true, but seeing it so blatantly displayed makes me feel like like I am finding out about it for the first time.
CIA is getting lazy
O.o
“It’s just a script whats the problem lol” the problem is that Fox, CNN, CBS, and all the other channels repped here, despite claiming to be different companies with different viewpoints, all had the exact same script, word for word, to push the exact same viewpoint that smaller, independent news outlets are Fake News and “A Threat To Our Democracy.” The fact that they have scripts isn’t the problem. The problem is they all, each and every one, have the exact same script down to the letter and in some cases the fucking inflection, which basically reads “small news stations are untrustworthy and a Threat to your Way Of Life, only trust Us, We Are Verified.”
These channels are all local channels owned by Sinclair broadcasting, a right wing media conglomerate that recently gained control of almost all American local news channels after Ajit Pai’s FCC heavily deregulated telecom companies. This is not some broad spectrum media conspiracy, it is specifically an attempt at a right wing takeover of all American local broadcasting for the purposes of propaganda.
Keep reblogging this until it is the only news on the TV
This is terrifying.
To all Twitter idjits out there giving Levar "Mr. Reading Rainbow" Burton a hard time for being himself (aka existing while being Black) I say this: Get the fuck out of here & leave him alone.
Imagine the unmitigated gall these 'people' must have telling a Black person they aren't 'black' enough, or saying that his experiences and concerns are invalid, for, checking notes, 'reasons.'
Grow the fuck up, leave other people alone, and work on yourselves. Life is hard enough for everyone out there without you projecting your unhappiness on someone else.
Thought the same thing.
I learned about the US Civil War in 3rd grade. That's how you teach children about slavery, in particular slavery in the US.
You teach children about slavery by teaching them about history. You don't pretend it didn't happen or wasn't too bad or the slaves were happier or whatever other nonsense apologists come up with.
America's economy was based on slave labor for a very long time. It was and is an abhorrent practice. 'Different times' doesn't excuse it from being morally repugnant.
As has been pointed out over and over again, if one group of people can be made to go through the horrors of slavery, other groups can learn about it.
Tonight I gave Art Spiegelman the National Book Awards Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. And we're both being banned. Some of you may think this is a good thing because you don't like my books or you don't care for Maus. But I guarantee that there are books you love on the banned lists too. That's why libraries and librarians fight for their rights to have all the books on the shelves and for your rights to read them. And it's why I support them.
Just reblogging because none of the threats to books and libraries have gone away. Mostly they've got worse. If you are capable of joining your Library Board or School Board do it...
And if you personally are unable to join your local Library Board or School Board, find the people who ARE running for those positions who support your values and SUPPORT them!!! It’s usually an elected position, and the pro-censorship crowd is pouring COUNTLESS resources into putting their people in power. It’s so important to get involved in your community, because that’s where change starts.
And if you think you're in a "blue enough area" think again.
I desperately encourage you to look at who is actually running, and also historical election data. For example, one of our school board positions was nearly filled by someone who was anti-mask, pro-censorship and was beaten out by less than 1k votes.
Look at the stuff these people say on social media. Some of my local candidates for various offices -- officially sponsored by the local republican party -- have expressed a desire to destroy public education and public libraries. Literally. Like the exact words were "get rid of libraries, they're liberal brainwashing facilities".
Don't have kids? DOESN'T MATTER. These systems support the ENTIRE COMMUNITY. The next generation will be who takes over in the positions that maintain your electrical grid, keep your water running, oversee supply chain in your local companies so things keep running. You want people who are educated. You want people to have equal access to food and shelter and dignity.
The more of a gap you have, the more space there is to be filled by hateful rhetoric that leads to violence -- yes, violence, in your backyard.
"That can't happen here" -- our area just recently faced sabotage to power substations LESS THAN FIVE MILES FROM MY HOUSE. Right down the road. During a cold snap that could've KILLED people and they know it. It can happen "here", and it will if people don't take an active stand in their communities.
Free societies/Nations do not burn books.
Only the ignorant burn books for fear of what is inside them.
