DARK EMU DANCER TALKS OUT AGAINST BRUCE PASCOE’S BEER

A new lager created in collaboration with Bruce Pascoe has stirred controversy due to the inclusion of a Yuin men’s initiation Dreamtime story on the can.

Dark Emu Lager is a beer that was created in collaboration between the Sailor’s Grave Brewing Company in Orbost and Yuin, Bunurong, and Tasmanian author Bruce Pascoe.

Pascoe is the author of the book “Dark Emu” which entered the Australian literary canon in 2014 when it challenged the dominant idea of Aboriginal society being a hunter-gatherer society.

Warren Ngaarae Foster a multi-disciplinary artist danced in the production of Pascoe’s Dark Emu.

He said the Yuin story written on the can of alcohol is special and sacred to the Yuin people.

“It’s one of our lore stories that our old people tell the young men when they have gone through their initiation”.

Mr Foster said Pascoe was adopted into ceremony and lore to the Yuin nation and as an initiated man, he should be more aware of the protocols in sharing the story.

HERE ARE THREE INDIGENOUS SCIENTISTS TO INSPIRE YOU THIS NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK

To mark this week’s science week, we spoke to three Indigenous scientists, about how culture influences their work.

Kirsten Banks is a Wiradjuri Astrophysicist and passionate science communicator. She teaches on a number of different platforms including live-on-stage, broadcasting on NITV, and her own personal Tik Tok profile @AstroKirsten where she talks about the Indigenous link to science.

Her interest in science started with the weather, but it wasn’t until she was taken on a school excursion to see a documentary about the Hubble telescope that space captured her imagination.

On her Tiktok, Banks makes educational shorts about Indigenous Australia’s link to science. She tells us that the knowledge we have in Australia is incredible.

“There are hundreds of different [Indigenous] groups across Australia that have their perspective on the night sky”.

Samoa Arrests Anti-Vaccination Activist As Measles Death Toll Rises

Samoan authorities have arrested a prominent anti-vaccination activist amid an outbreak that has killed at least 63 people, most of them children.

Edwin Tamasese has been charged with “incitement against a government order,” according to the BBC.

Government officials say anti-vaccination advocates such as Tamasese have complicated their sweeping efforts to turn the tide on the highly contagious disease that has sickened more than 4,300 people on the independent Pacific islands.

The government has declared a state of emergency and ordered mandatory vaccinations. It shut schools indefinitely. This week, it launched a door-to-door mass vaccination campaign, asking families to pin a piece of red cloth on their homes if they haven’t been vaccinated.

On Thursday and Friday, the government closed all of its offices except public utilities, so that civil servants could focus on the campaign. Officials say more than 20,000 people have received vaccines.

40 million people unemployed and we get a measly 1k while corporations are getting like billions. You remember that trillion dollars they just injected into the stock market that disappeared in a flash? Why couldn’t that have been used to properly shelter houseless people? Why couldn’t that be used to feed people? Why is there still NO RENT FREEZE?

People would be restless in quarantine regardless but we have to worry about all this added shit as well - while we are still being murdered by the police at the same rate as if we were not in quarantine. How are we protesting so many police murders when most people are stuck at home? What’s the maffs on that?

So of course people are taking to the streets to demand justice for George Floyd and Breonna Taylor and Tony McDade and the countless others murdered by the police. But its only natural that in a police state everything is affected by the police.  As areas get gentrified, there is an increase in policing to either imprison or murder the people who are being displaced. Food Not Bombs is arrested for feeding houseless people in miami. Speaking of, where exactly are houseless people supposed to go during curfew when police violence is unmitigated? Everything links back to the police in a police state. This is why we say Abolish The Pigs

As for looting. stop pearl clutching over replaceable, insured things. Lives cannot be replaced nor brought back. If you care more about stores than lives fuck you.

So when Target refused to let the people of Minneapolis buy supplies to neutralize pepper spray, Target was no longer a part of the community. So Minneapoians  looted it and burned it. They don’t need a mega corporation in their community if it doesn’t do the will of the community. And what did they do with that loot? They dispersed it to people who needed it. Food for those who needs it, water for the protestors, first aid to those injured.

And she’s 100% that the banks own small businesses. Which is different than banks owning houses or whatever bullshit yall are saying.This idealization of small businesses as pillars of the community is bad. Remember the LA Riots? small business owner killed a 15 year old Latasha Harlins? Small businesses are a part of gentrification. Protestors are stopping the looting and vanadlism of businesses that are good for their communities. You have got to trust that the protestors know their communities better than you do.

Unfortunately Bri’s school did not renew her contract bc of this video. Bc it is a charter school she can’t go to the union for help.
