Sam found the old fireworks in Bobby’s attic and that was that. The Winchesters were having a proper New Years. He looked like an over excited puppy from Deans place on the roof. The one he’d called dibs on as soon as Sam dumped the dusty box of explosives on the kitchen table with a sneeze and a grin.
Dean nursed his beer as Sam set up, Bobby hanging back and being the responsible adult. Sam was kinda acting like a 12 year old. Dean grinned, it was a nice change.
“So we survived another year,” He told Cas, the sound of wings and the snap of fabric cutting through the clear night, he turned, smiling as Cas sat down awkwardly beside him, rust flaking under his hands.
Sammy’s yell and Bobby’s curse were the only warning they got before a firework exploded over their heads, bright gold sparks scattering about, gunpowder thick and hot. Dean could feel it against his face and he whooped along with Sammy.
Sam started laughing, throwing his hands up as another whizzed off, yelling for the sake of yelling. Dean watched the blue explosion light up Cas’s face.
“Yes we did” Cas admitted quietly, a smile tugging at his lips as he watched the sky.
